04.01.2022 Fruit Fly Update - The Control Areas introduced to reduce the risk of further movement of Queensland fruit fly, will continue to remain in place pending the rei...nstatement of the Pest Free Area status. The current target date for reinstatement of the Pest Free Area status, based on the National Fruit Fly Management Protocol, is 9 January 2019. A number of factors will come in to play to determine the final reinstatement date and include finding no further fruit flies and acceptance by our trading partners that Queensland fruit fly is no longer present in Tasmania. The Government has also announced that details are now being finalised for the provision of transitional assistance to affected growers in the Control Areas until reinstatement. This includes the areas of packaging, fumigation treatment and associated transport and labour costs. An grower/industry forum will be held at Stony Rise in Devonport, and via video link at New Town in the south of the state on Friday 14 September at 11am. Biosecurity Tasmania and AgriGrowth Tasmania staff will be present to answer questions directly in relation to negotiations on market access re-instatement, latest information on lifting of Control Areas, grower assistance package, and requirements in relation to product movement at commencement of the harvesting season. Further details are available on the Biosecurity Tasmania website at www.dpipwe.tas.gov.au/fruitfly
