25.01.2022 Lena Caroline Nicol - died 15th April 1910 at a private hospital in Shepparton of appendicitis. She was the wife of J.H. Nicol of "Glentanna" Shepparton and the daughter of the late P.Morgan of Tabilk near Avenel Her husband James Hunter Nicol died in 1922 and rests with her. Jeanette

24.01.2022 Mary Maskell - passed May 1941. She rests with her loved son James. The death occurred in Mooroopna hospital on Friday night of Mrs. Mary Maskell wife of Mr. Newel Maskell of 5 Wyndham Street, Shepparton - a returned soldier who at present is a member of the garrison at Number 2 camp Dhurringile. She was aged 44 years and had not endured good health for 13 years. The deceased was a Great War bride who had formerly lived in England, her maiden name being Warburton. Jeanette

23.01.2022 Richard Culleton -1835 - 1887 - a tragic story Richard came to Victoria in 1857 aged 21 from Ireland as a free settler. He left in a hurry as he thought he had killed an English Groomsman after the English took his family property. He settled in Kilmore and drove Cobb and Co coaches on the Melbourne Kilmore run. He eventually farmed 700 acres near Kilmore . He sold in 1877 and obtained 243 acres at Pinelodge where he moved with his large family and farmed the land. Sadly -... he was killed by his son James. They had an altercation - Richard threw and axe at his son and James retaliated by throwing a piece of quartering at his father. It struck Richard behind the ear and he died almost immediately before help could be summoned. Following is part of the obituary - Seymour Free press 1887 Very great regret was felt in Kilmore this week when it became known that Mr Richard Culleton, for many years a respected member of the town prior to his selecting at Pinelodge, met with his death under very painful circumstances. Mr. Culleton was a hardworking honest man and reared a large family, and while his death is to be much deplored, the circumstances of the case render the event exceedingly sad indeed. See more

21.01.2022 Hector William Crilly - 1883 to 1941 Following a lengthy illness the death took place at his house at 451 Wyndham Street Shepparton on Friday evening past of Mr. Hector William Crilly, a very old resident of the district. The late Mr. Crilly, who was 58 years of age, was well known in sporting bodies throughout the Goulburn Valley and North-Eastern districts as a leading bookmaker. Whilst resident in Shepparton he took an active interest in the town and made many friends wh...o will regret to learn of his passing. The deceased gentleman had many friends in Benalla who will regret to learn the news of his death. He is survived by his wife, three daughters and one son. Melba (Mrs J. 12.01.2022 Philip Vibert - Died 14th May 1910. Passed peacefully away at his residence at Mason Street, Shepparton - beloved husband of Hattie- in his 78th year. Also Hattie- his wife, who passed away at her residence in Mason Street 1912. Hattie (nee Asplet) was born around 1840 at St.Helier in the Jersey Channel Islands. She married Phillippe Vibert 1st Feb 1860 in St.Helier. They had 6 children. Two sons, Philip and Edward came to Australia first and later Hattie with her husband a...nd other children followed in 1881 and settled in Shepparton. The men in the family were carpenters, joiners and tradesmen in the wood trade. Also Florence L.- 1871 to 1957 and Sidney J. 1959 aged 90 Jeanette

09.01.2022 Alexander Beechey- died March 1920 aged 66 Alexander was engineer to the Shepparton Urban Water Trust. He was also the caretaker of the Post Office clock. Article Dec 1904. "A peculiar accident happened to Alexander Beechey, caretaker of the local Post Office clock on Saturday night last. At 6 o'clock he went into the tower, 6 ft square, to wind the clock. While doing so the clock struck 6. Just as it finished striking he heard a grinding noise overhead, and the winding wheel... commenced to revolve in the opposite direction at lightning speed. The hand struck Beechey, tearing the flesh from his left elbow to the wrist. As the noise continued, Beechey crouched in as small a space as possible. In a few seconds a huge iron weight of 6 or 7 cwt., fell, and grazed his scalp tearing the skin off. Had he been another inch out, his head would have been smashed like matchwood. The weight struck his left thigh, bruising it in a terrible fashion. It then passed through the floor onto the landing of the staircase. Mrs. Lawrence, the postmaster's wife, heard the noise and gave the alarm. The postal officials mounted the tower and found Beechey bleeding terribly. He was brought down and revived by fresh air. Dr. Herring put several stitches in his head and arm, and said it was remarkable that the man stood such a shock. Jeanette m

09.01.2022 Francis George Pearce - Died aged 52 in 1922. He emigrated from Innerleithem, Scotland in 1912 to give his family a new start. He applied for land to grow an orchard in Victoria and was allocated a block at Orrvale. His family lived in a tent there at first until a two roomed house was erected. His children were Sarah(Ray), Bill and Isabella (Tibbie) and George. He became sick and developed pneumonia- dying in the Guildford Private Hospital. His youngest son George, was in t...he militia in the second world war and lost his life on the Kokoda trail. 03.01.2022 Charles John Every - born Echuca 1881 - died 23.9.1958. He lived at the Kialla Settlement and had a heart attack whilst shoeing his horse Eva Isabel (Isabella?) Every - nee Twyford - born Ballarat Married aged 21 to Charles in 1907. Died 21.10.1971 aged 85 Sadly four of their seven children pre-deceased them... Jeanette
