22.01.2022 You may have heard of the injection ‘cortisone’ that is used mainly to reduce inflammation and swelling in a region of the shoulder called the bursa. This condition is known as bursitis and can impact on the range of motion and strength in your shoulders. However, there are lots of different conditions that can be causing your shoulder pain, not just bursitis. It is important to obtain the correct diagnosis as this can determine the effectiveness of the injection. The physiotherapists at our clinic can help to make this diagnosis and guide you to what will be the most effective treatment, whether that be a cortisone injection or a different treatment method.

20.01.2022 Much like tennis elbow, you don’t have to be a golfer to develop golfer’s elbow. This is an overuse condition that affects the tendons of the forearm flexor muscles in the arm. This condition causes pain on the inside of your elbow and normally gets worse as you use your arm. Our physiotherapists can help you strengthen your arms to overcome your golfer’s elbow pain. 18.01.2022 Are you having pain below the knee when you jump, change direction or decelerate? You could have a condition called patella tendinopathy, otherwise known as jumper’s knee. This injury is caused by inflammation to the tendon normally due to repetitive activities that place high levels of stress on the knee. It is important not to play through pain, and use the POLICE (Protect, Optimal Loading, Ice, Compression and Elevation) method after exercise. Our physios can help you develop an individualised program to rehabilitate the jumper’s knee and decrease your pain when exercising.

11.01.2022 Our power has now been restored by Powercor. Thank you to everyone for your patience. We will now make contact with all those that messaged us.

11.01.2022 Did you know that osteoarthritis (arthritis) is graded based on its severity? So you may have been diagnosed with arthritis before, but you could be on a completely different level to the next person that has arthritis. Total joint replacements are a commonly known treatment for knee arthritis. Current research shows that it may not be the first line of treatment as once thought. Studies have demonstrated that only those with grade 3 or 4 arthritis have a good outcome with surgery. This means that those with grade 1 or 2 arthritis will not only get a better outcome with physiotherapy but may also prevent the need for surgery later on in life. So what to do now with this information? Chat with your GP and physiotherapist about your scans and seek the best treatment based on your graded arthritis!

11.01.2022 Many people have heard of shoulder injuries such as rotator cuff tears and bursitis, but have you heard of an acromioclavicular (AC) joint injury? The AC joint is the point of contact between the clavicle (or collarbone) and acromion (apart of the shoulder blade). Ligaments hold this joint together. When you fall onto your shoulder, or get a ‘hip and shoulder’ during football, you may tear these ligaments, causing instability of the joint. Like any injury, it is important to rehabilitate correctly to regain full function of the joint. Our physiotherapists can help you develop an individualised rehabilitation plan to get your shoulder moving again!

09.01.2022 One of the most common questions we get asked is what is the difference between a physiotherapist and a chiropractor. Physiotherapy is a primary healthcare profession that focuses on restoring mobility and function to the fullest potential when someone is affected by illness, disability or injury. Physiotherapists use their expertise in anatomy and physiology to assess, diagnose and treat people with a range of health conditions. The aim of physiotherapy is to use evidence b...ased practice to rehabilitate and improve a person's ability to move and function over time by looking at the long term goal and/or outcome. Chiropractors' core focus is the diagnosis, correction and prevention of disorders of the musculoskeletal system (spine, pelvis, muscles, ligaments and joints). Chiropractic is nearly always associated with spinal and neck manipulations, but it can also involve a combination of hands-on care and physical therapy modalities. As physiotherapists, we want you to improve your health for the long term. It may take more time to see a change in your function and decrease in pain, however, our methods are proven to increase your quality of life for your future. 02.01.2022 Many people tend to have noisy joints. If this is you, you might be wondering if this is normal and/or if it is a sign of something more serious. The sound you hear when a joint cracks is caused by air bubbles in the synovial fluid (the liquid that surrounds and lubricates your joints) and also by the snapping of tightly stretched ligaments as they slide off one bony surface onto another. When not accompanied by pain, noisy joints are harmless, however we do not recommend forcing joints to snap or pop. However, when your joint cracks, and this causes pain or a restriction in your movement, it is best to seek advice from a physiotherapist.
