22.01.2022 Jim Crowther has been a member of the NSW Rural Fire Service for 55 years and has had extensive involvement across the organisation including: Deputy Captain, Captain, Group Leader and President. Perhaps Jim’s most significant accomplishment was the re-establishment of the Shipley RFB after it was disbandment (due to the original Shipley Fire Station being badly damaged by a fallen tree). Jim lobbied all levels of government and campaigned via news and radio services. Due to... his persistence and leadership, Jim was ultimately successful in seeing Shipley RFB re-established and a new Shipley RFB station built and opened in 2017. In recognition of his lifelong service, Captain Jim was awarded the honour of Official Life Membership of the Shipley Rural Fire Brigade during the 2020 AGM. He is pictured below being presented his award by Ms Trish Doyle member for Blue Mountains and Shadow Minister for Emergency Services in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. Congratulations Jim from the Shipley RFB members. See more

16.01.2022 ANZAC DAY 2020 They went with songs to the battle, they were young. Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,... They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Lest We Forget

15.01.2022 When Captain Jim appeared on The Project on Channel Ten, Chris Bath and the Channel Ten team offered a computer and printer to Shipley RFB. We were thrilled as our old second hand computer had crashed. The next day Apple Penrith and Castle Towers at Castle Hill offered us a fabulous laptop. We didnt need two computers so after discussion with the Apple team, they we happy to transfer their offer to close friends, Jenolan Caves RFB who had their RFB station and all its conten...ts, except for the tankers, destroyed in the fire at Jenolan Caves. Last week the Apple team from Penrith and Castle Towers came to Shipley RFB station to present the laptop to Barry Richards from Jenolan Caves RFB A huge thank you to the Apple team for their donation of this amazing laptop.

06.01.2022 Monday, 6 April 2020 ROB ROGERS TO BECOME NEW RFS COMMISSIONER Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott has announced Rob Rogers as the new NSW ...Rural Fire Service Commissioner, following 40 years as a member and nine years as Deputy Commissioner, serving in the latter role during the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfire season. Joining as a volunteer in 1979, Mr Rogers has a decorated career within the RFS, holding a number of senior leadership roles including regional management, community safety and operations. Rob Rogers has the outstanding credentials necessary to lead more than 70,000 dedicated RFS volunteers that we depend on when bushfires threaten life and property, Mr Elliott said. I dont think theres a single person who would disagree that Commissioner Fitzsimmons leadership was a beacon of hope during our States darkest hour, Mr Elliott said. I am pleased we will continue to benefit from Mr Fitzsimmons extensive experience and knowledge as ends his term with the RFS and begins as Commissioner of Resilience NSW. 01.01.2022 Shipley Rural Fire Brigade would like to give a huge thank you to Western Sydney- Help a Fire Volunteer for the wonderful support they have given to us during the recent fires. They regularly asked us if we needed anything to make our crews days easier on the fire front. This group were the very first group to offer help to us and continued to do so until last weekend when we stopped sending out three crews and began to return to normal operations within our brigade, focu...sing on call outs and standbys as required. We must also thank all the people, transport drivers who came a long way to us delivering the necessities to us, groups and organisations that helped Western Sydney- Help a Fire Volunteer to provide all that was needed to Shipley RFB and other RFS brigades. You made a busy and difficult time, while our crews were at the fire, so much easier for them. Finally a special thank you to Amanda and Sally for the amazing work you have done. You have given so much of your time and energy to help so many people over this past month.

01.01.2022 This Sunday, 8 March, is International Womens Day. International Womens Day celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women, and provides ...an opportunity to reflect on and promote the need for greater equality. The theme of International Womens Day is #EachForEqual. It is not about denigrating the role or contribution of others but we do need to call out the fact that more needs to be done in this space. In the NSW RFS, 22 percent of our members are female. This is greater than many other fire services, and a sign of the increasing role women play in our service. However if the Service wants to be truly representative of the community we serve and protect, we need to keep working towards a more equal membership profile. We also know we need to keep working on providing leadership opportunities and pathways for women. Last financial year: Only 3 of the 66 Group leader qualifications issued were to women; 71 of 610 Crew Leader qualifications were issued to women; and 88 of 573 Advanced Firefighter qualifications were for women. There are plenty of examples of women doing great things in the NSW RFS, such as: Krystaal Hinds, Captain of the Gunning Fish River RFB who has been named the 2020 Regional Women of the Year at the NSW Woman Of The Year Awards this week Stephanie Looi, Alice Lavender and Emma Gamble have been voted on to the Board of Women and Firefighting Australasia Inc. Just last month Kylie Ledger from the Darlington Brigade in the Hunter Valley, hosted the Australian Women in Emergencies Network here at Headquarters The extraordinary activity seen this fire season has provided the opportunity for women to really show their strength, with numerous brigades turning out all-female crews including Laingholm, Blaxland and a Mid Coast strike team, proving once again that the women of the RFS can well and truly hold their own. Some of our female Incident Controllers such as Karen Hodges from the Hawkesbury district, and Vicki Campbell from the Central Coast, who displayed exemplary leadership throughout recent bush fires . International Womens Day is an opportunity to highlight these achievements and make a commitment to do more. The Service will continue to target and develop opportunities for women, and as a Male Champion of Change, I will continue to advocate the critical role and contribution women have in the fire and emergency services. I challenge all of our members, both men and women, to show our female members who much they and their achievements are valued, respected and admired, because theyre doing a remarkable job. Regards Shane
