Money raised in our bake sale will go towards the purchasing of takeaway containers, which are used every week for our home cooked meals. Money will also go towards the cost of a fridge and freezer we recently purchased which has enabled us to store frozen meals and keep produce for hampers fresh. 25.01.2022 Shire Hamper Helpers - Week in Review Highlights for this week: Huge shout out of thanks and appreciation again this week to Community Co-op Sutherland Shire for supplying us with extra produce, pantry items & frozen meals. Your support will go a long way in helping us to PIF to many individuals and families in our community. Thank you again.... We continue to welcome new members to the SHH Group - Shire Hamper Helpers. Please share our Shire Hamper Helpers Page &/or refer us to anyone you know who could do with a helping hand. We distributed 23 grocery & bread hampers PLUS around 35 home cooked meals to individuals &/or families this week. Amazing! We love it when we are able to provide some bonus items in our hampers - this week some of our members received home made items (jams & meals), quiche, pie & pantry items Our drop off to the local mens hostel this week saw them receive around 70 home cooked meals + some frozen meat/fish + bread & bakery sweets & groceries! Our visits put a smile on their faces Thank you to Simone, Leanne & Alana for all your efforts in cooking meals this week. They look delicious as always. We really do appreciate the work you put in behind the scenes Check out Southside Care Food Pantry at Miranda (run by the lovely Carla) who have a community outreach programme offering free food Wednesdays! We are also working with the lovely Olive from Mission Australia providing her with groceries & bread to share with families. Olive also refers people to us when they need a helping hand. We will always prioritise these types of referrals to ensure we get food to where it is needed most and the feedback we have received from these hamper recipients has been lovely We continue to provide both collection & delivery options for hampers. Your helper will let you know if delivery is an option for the day you have requested For members receiving hampers (delivery or collection) we request a gold coin donation to help cover petrol costs for our helpers as well as operational costs. We know everyone needs a helping hand and so do our volunteers! On the subject of donations - thank you to our wonderful members who donated gold coins for their hampers this week. Thanks also for the plastic bags, egg cartons and pantry items that continue to be donated. We are most grateful for any donations received. It all helps us to pay it forward PS Can members please remember to keep your hamper box and hand back to our helpers next time you receive a hamper. We re-use the boxes as much as we can So thats our update for this week. Please stay safe, be kind and look after each other. 20.01.2022 We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Sydney Packaging, who have very generously donated 500 takeaway containers plus lids for our community group. They also organised for delivery free of charge! Shire Hamper Helpers use a minimum of 50 containers each week to distribute homemade meals to our local residents and families in need. This donation will go a long way to help us continue to meet the demand for assistance. 19.01.2022 No one should be worried about having enough to eat, but for vulnerable communities the Covid-19 crisis has made accessing affordable and nutritious food even h...arder than usual. That is why we donated $1 million to OzHarvest to facilitate food relief for vulnerable communities including social housing residents, international students and temporary visa holders who were locked out of federal financial assistance. OzHarvest has been handing out thousands of pre-cooked meals, food hampers and grocery staples bags since the pandemic started. Now, with the support of the City of Sydney and a space provided by the NSW Government, theyve opened a supermarket in Waterloo that will provide hampers, groceries and other essential items on a take what you need; pay what you can basis. Its open Friday to Monday, 10am to 2pm at 95 Wellington St, Waterloo.
