20.01.2022 Need to relieve a cough? Make a cup of tea using Thyme from your garden or pantry. Just pour boiling water over one teaspoon of the dried leaves or two teaspoon...s of the fresh ones. Next put the lid on the teapot or cover the top of your mug, and leave the tea to brew for around five minutes. Strain into your cup, add some honey and/or lemon to taste, then sip on the tea while it's still warm. Natural health professionals often include Thyme in cough mixtures for its expectorant, antimicrobial and antispasmodic properties, so if your symptoms persist, have a chat with your practitioner. 18.01.2022 Have you noticed heart palpitations since entering perimenopause? Yeah. Add that to the list of symptoms. . This is a perimenopause series where Im going sym...ptom by symptom with each post. Hold your impatient horses if I havent hit your symptom yet. Or, GO BACK ON MY INSTAGRAM AND CATCH UP! They are numbered for you! . Please make sure youve had a heart work up first and do your due diligence if youre experiencing weird heart things - flutters, skipped beats, odd thumps, irregular rhythms that come and go or pain! . Other things cause heart palpitations like hypo or hyperthyroidism, anemia, nutrient deficiency like B vitamins and magnesium, excess caffeine and anxiety. . Assuming it all checks out, its likely due to the drop in estrogen in perimenopause and menopause. Estrogen is really important for your heart overall. . Estradiol has protective effects against adrenaline in the heart. Less estrogen means more adrenaline effect to the heart. PMID 29407091. . Estrogen can upregulate nitric oxide causing vasodilation and relaxation of blood vessels ( blood pressure). It can modulate your ion channels (affecting heart beat). PMID 21885836. . In 2017, the American College of Cardiology said Women using hormone replacement therapy to relieve the symptoms of menopause faced a lower risk of death and showed lower levels of atherosclerosis, or plaque buildup in the heart's arteries, compared to women not using hormone therapy. Estrogen reduces plaque build up. . But if its not estradiol, its progesterone as healthy progesterone can also reduce irregular heart beat. PMID 18056530. . Does this mean you should or have to take hormones? Not necessarily! Definitely consider a b complex and a mineral supplement (for magnesium and potassium), reduce or eliminate caffeine, look at my IG post on anxiety and talk to your practitioner about testing! . Save this post, repost it to spread the word and let me know if youre experiencing heart stuff in perimenopause! . . #ipreview via @preview.app See more

13.01.2022 Did you know that Vitamin D is essential for Immunity? The vitamin D activating enzyme is found on receptor immune cells. Low Vitamin D is associated with poor lung function. Not all of us are as genetically capable of converting the suns rays to vitamin D due to a lack of Vitamin D Receptor (VDR). Mushrooms , and cod liver oil are also good sources of vitamin D and if your vitamin D is low especially at this time of the year, make sure you take a supplement.

12.01.2022 Dietary selenium plays an important role in the immune system and inflammatory response to viral infection. Recently published in the American Journal of Nutrition, research from the University of Surrey looked at the selenium levels and the cure rate of COVID-19 patients and found a correlation with improved recovery and areas with higher levels of selenium in the soil. In Heilongjiang Province, where selenium intake is among the lowest in the world, the death rate from Covid-19 was almost five-times as high as the average of all the other provinces outside of Hubei.

11.01.2022 In the herbal world, nothing quite says Christmas like Frankincense and Myrrh. Historically, these two aromatic resins were so highly prized that they were ment...ioned in Biblical texts as gifts presented to the baby Jesus on the occasion of his birth. All this time later, we still prize Myrrh for its antiseptic and antimicrobial properties (especially for mucous membranes in the mouth and throat), while Boswellia (a close relative of the Frankincense used in perfumery and aromatherapy) is used for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain-relieving) benefits in conditions like mild osteoarthritis. How do you like to use these ancient herbs in your clinical practice? See more

07.01.2022 There is a simple test you can do to measure your Omega 3 vs Omega 6. It is my experience that genetics plays a role in the amount of essential fatty acids an individual needs.

07.01.2022 Take Care of your Gut! Make sure you are taking a good quality probiotic. The gut is the first line of defence and needs to be functioning optimally to absorb all our vitamins and minerals necessary to support immune function. If you have poor digestion or a history of recurrent upper respiratory infections, consider taking digestive enzymes which may help to thin mucus secretions during a respiratory infection.

04.01.2022 I know I harp on about Vitamin D, but it truly is a misunderstood and overlooked vitamin.

04.01.2022 An excellent article on the dark side of fertility clinics...

03.01.2022 St Johns Day St. Johns wort was given its name because it flowers at the time of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. It was named in honour of John the Baptist by early Christians because it was believed to release its blood red coloured oil on 29 August, the day of the Saints Beheading. The Christians adopted the Pagan tradition and burnt the herb on bonfires on St Johns Eve (23rd July) to purify the air and drive away evil spirits. In ancient European pries...ts and healers believed the herb St Johns was at its peak medicinal value on this day when the sun has reached its zenith in the sky. A warming remedy traditionally used for depression, St Johns Wort was traditionally thought to the energy and warmth of the sun into the body.

03.01.2022 Have your periods suddenly become heavier? Not only can they get more irregular (thank you hormonal fluctuations) but they can get heavier, clottier and last lo...nger. . This is a perimenopause series where Im going symptom by symptom with each post. Hold your impatient horses if I havent hit your symptom yet. Or, GO BACK ON MY INSTAGRAM AND CATCH UP! They are numbered for you! . If you go back on my IG series, youll recall I explained how you are likely not ovulating as consistently as you were when you were younger. . You make the hormone progesterone after ovulation. So, no ovulation? No progesterone. . Progesterone does many things but in the uterus, it counter balances estrogen. . Estrogen can make the lining of your uterus grow while progesterone helps balance this (or kinda keep it in check). . But, if you have little to no progesterone month after month, the lining grows THICK, then when you go to bleed, you bleed out the thickness. . Plus, all that estrogen might cause fibroids or polyps to grow and get thicker. They bleed super easily too. . Other things can cause heavy bleeding: anemia, low thyroid, bleeding disorders, copper IUD...etc. . If your periods have become longer and/or much heavier (bleeding through pads or tampons often) then talk to your doctor. You need testing and possibly a pelvic ultrasound plus treatment specific for you. . Like, save, repost this (tag me!) and tell me how your periods are in perimenopause below! . #ipreview via @preview.app See more

02.01.2022 When you cannot stop thinking or worrying, here are techniques that will help you calm your mind.

02.01.2022 A good article on the mood changes of perimenopause.

01.01.2022 There is still no way to diagnose endometriosis other than laproscopy and the average time to diagnosis endometriosis is 8 years ((: 1 in 4 of the women I see in clinic have diagnosed or undiagnosed endometriosis.
