10.01.2022 This morning I can now announce our next cautious and safe step as part of WA's controlled interstate border. Subject to no further outbreaks occurring and base...d on updated Chief Health Officer advice, Victoria and New South Wales will be classified as 'very low risk' states from 12.01am, Tuesday, December 8. The transition to the new category can occur, following a review by our Chief Health Officer after Victoria surpassed 28 days of no community cases and New South Wales is due to reach that milestone this Friday. As a result, WA's controlled interstate border will be safely adjusted, with travel from Victoria and New South Wales to be permitted into WA with the following conditions: - all Perth Airport arrivals to undergo a health screening and temperature test on arrival - travellers to be prepared to take a COVID-19 test at the airport COVID clinic, if deemed necessary by a health clinician (voluntary asymptomatic testing available for all airport arrivals) - completion of a G2G Pass declaration, stipulating they do not have any COVID-19 symptoms and which jurisdictions the traveller has been in over the previous 14 days - all travellers to receive a SMS health check reminder one week into their stay in WA - all land arrivals to be met at the border checkpoint, for a health screening and to have their G2G Pass declaration checked. Other jurisdictions currently in the ‘very low risk’ category include the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, Northern Territory and Tasmania. The significantly improved situation in Victoria and New South Wales has been fantastic news for all Australians, and now it means that we can take this cautious next step. However, at this stage, South Australia will remain classified as a ‘medium risk’ jurisdiction. This classification will be reviewed again by December 11. Travel from South Australia remains prohibited unless travellers meet strict exemption criteria. Exempt travellers must also self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in Western Australia. Please note that those conditions apply to anyone who has been in South Australia in the previous 14 days. This also includes transit through South Australia, via road or air. Like always, we’re continuing to follow our State’s expert health advice. Our border controls have worked and allowed us to stay safe and return to a new normal throughout this pandemic, to get our economy going and people back in work. Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding during this extremely difficult time. I know it's been a long wait, and I'm so glad we can now safely allow more of our friends and family over east to travel into WA. Our careful and cautious approach has kept our State safe and strong and we will continue to take that approach going forward.

09.01.2022 TOTAL FIRE BAN IMPOSED FOR SATURDAY 9 JANUARY A Total Fire Ban has been imposed for Saturday 9 January 2021, effective from midnight to midnight, for the Shire of Cunderdin. For further information, visit Emergency WA at https://www.emergency.wa.gov.au/.... At these times you must not: Light, maintain or use a fire in the open air Carry out any activity that could start a fire This includes: Open fires for the purpose of cooking, camping or outdoor entertainment are not allowed including fire pits and bonfires. 08.01.2022 As you now know, the community outbreak of COVID-19 in South Australia is extremely serious. As a result, yesterday, we acted swiftly to strengthen our controll...ed border regime with South Australia. Those were initial steps to protect all Western Australians, until we received further information on the South Australian outbreak. I can now outline some further measures to protect the health and safety of the WA community. Since our announcements yesterday, I am advised that the updated controlled border regime with South Australia has come into effect without major issues. I understand those changes have caused frustration and disappointment for some, but this is a deadly virus that we cannot take any chances on. Here in Western Australia, we will do whatever it takes to protect our citizens and our way of life. I always said that we would not hesitate to bring in tougher border controls if required. Unfortunately, the time for those tougher border controls came faster than anyone could have expected. And we don’t have time to waste. That’s why on, on further advice from our Chief Health Officer this morning, we have decided to take further steps to protect our State and reduce the risk of the virus entering WA. Given the size of the outbreak, our Chief Health Officer has now determined that South Australia has moved from a ‘very low risk’ category to the ‘medium risk’ category. This is the highest rating of any other state or territory and South Australia may move to the ‘high risk’ category very soon. As a result, effective from 6pm tonight, we will further restrict travel from South Australia or anyone that has been in South Australia in the previous 14 days. This means they will need to meet a strict exemption category for those travellers to enter WA. This exemption system mirrors the system we had in place for Victoria during the height of their second wave. The exemption list for South Australia is limited to: - certain senior Government Officials; - certain active military personnel; - a member of the Commonwealth Parliament; - a person carrying out functions under a law of the Commonwealth; - a person coming to WA at the request of the Chief Health Officer; - a person responsible for transport freight or logistics; and - anyone who is given approval by the State Emergency Coordinator or an authorised officer. That final category includes compassionate reasons and that could include those Western Australians that may have travelled to South Australia in the last few days. Tonight we have two flights from Adelaide scheduled to arrive for anyone on those flights, they will now need to be processed through the exemption system. Those passengers are being notified of the changes by the airlines and at the Adelaide airport, before they board. For those small number of arrivals, they will need to self-quarantine at a suitable premise for 14 days subject to use of the G2G Now app and/or police checks. If a suitable premise is not available, they will be put in hotel quarantine at their own expense. They will also need to be tested for COVID-19 on arrival at Perth Airport and on Day 11, prior to coming out of 14 days of quarantine. For anyone arriving by road, through the Eucla checkpoint, this system will begin 48 hours later - from 6pm Wednesday November 18. We are allowing for some additional time for this form of travel, as we understand many people may already be on their way to the checkpoint. However, these people will still need quarantine for 14 days and be tested within 48 hours of arrival and on Day 11. These border controls will be constantly reviewed and can be tightened, extended or relaxed depending on the latest health advice from South Australia. But I urge everyone to reconsider their travel into WA if they have been in South Australia. Please do not come to WA at this point, if you don’t have to. The situation is just too risky right now. These steps, while they might seem harsh, are being taken on the best health advice to protect everyone. Bringing back the hard border altogether - to all States and Territories - is under serious consideration. We are closely monitoring the situation and if we need to go further, we will. Thanks again for your patience and understanding as we work through this extraordinary situation.

01.01.2022 We've been calling on Western Australian workers to take up a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get out across our State and take up important regional jobs. Fo...r many regional agriculture businesses, ensuring they can attract enough seasonal workers in the coming months is absolutely vital - so we're providing some additional incentives to help workers get out there and fill those roles. Under the new State Government rebate scheme, eligible workers who move to the regions for agricultural work will be able to claim up to $40 a night in accommodation rebates for up to 12 weeks up to a maximum total rebate of $3360. A travel allowance will be also made available to those relocating more than 100 kilometres from their usual place of residence. Workers will be able to claim $150 for travel to the Peel, South West, Great Southern, Wheatbelt, Mid West or Goldfields-Esperance regions, $350 for travel to the Gascoyne or Pilbara, and $500 for travel to the Kimberley. We're also calling on the Federal Government to do more to promote the sector and incentivise Western Australians to take up these opportunities. The rebate scheme will come into effect on 21 September - more information about submitting a claim can be found here: www.dpird.wa.gov.au/regional-workers-scheme Now's the time to work and wander out yonder and experience our unique State in a way you never have before. To see what opportunities are available please visit www.workandwander.wa.gov.au
