11.01.2022 Some more details on another of our speakers, Janette Pelosi Presentation Title: Sentenced beyond the Seas: Australia’s early convict records State Records NSW holds Australia’s earliest convict records. Janette Pelosi will be speaking about these convict records which document those who were sentenced to be transported to parts beyond the seas. These include the Alphabetical Indents, 1788-1800 (NRS 12188) and the Indents, First Fleet, Second Fleet and ships (NRS 1150). The ...225th anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet was marked in 2013 by the Sentenced beyond the Seas project as State Records gift to the people of New South Wales and the world. These founding documents reveal much about the early recordkeeping of the colony and those who became founders of our nation. The Sentenced beyond the Seas project, including the Early Convict Index, can be viewed at www.records.nsw.gov.au About the Presenter Janette Pelosi is both an archivist and an historian. She is a Professional Member of the Australian Society of Archivists (ASA). She is a Professional Member of the Professional Historians Association (PHA). She has worked for over 20 years at State Records and was Project Coordinator for the Sentenced beyond the Seas digitisation and indexing project. 10.01.2022 The first speaker to confirm her booking is Kim Phillips. Kim has devoted the past few years to the development of her Spirits Of Gallipoli Project, and her presentation will tell of how this came about, how it grew from an idea to a burning passion and has culminated in her new book, The Spirits Of Gallipoli. A Centenary of Anzacs. The book tells the story of 100 Australian soldiers, their homes, their families, their journey, and, of course, details of their service to ...their country. Learn of the soldier who accidentally killed his wife and enlisted because he had nothing to live for; the father and son who enlisted, landed & died together, the 15 year old who ran away from home to enlist, and many more heartbreaking and uplifting stories. So if you want to know a lot more about the men of the Gallipoli Campaign, come along to the History Fair and listen to Kim talk about her project. Kim will also have her new book and CD for sale at the History Fair. Kim's talk will be on Saturday 27th June at 2.30pm in the Supper Rooms next to the School of Arts building.
