24.01.2022 Its been great to get started on our bushfire recovery grant site assessments. At a site in Budgong it was wonderful to see so much native regeneration (only one weed to report-Ink Weed. Great native resilience).

23.01.2022 Head to Kangaroo Valley on Sunday, 15 March from 9.30am to hear Noel & Trish Butler lead a talk to the community about an indigenous perspective on native bush regeneration after the fires.

This assistance can be used for rebuildi...ng and repairing crucial infrastructure, treating, euthanising or burying livestock, as well as buying much-needed fodder, and for orchardists, replacing netting. 21.01.2022 Stormy Rainy Saturday. Great for Frogs. Well perfect actually. Thanks to all who braved the weather to release some chytrid fungus free Stuttering Frogs into Tapitallee and Bengalee Creeks on Saturday as part of the Shoalhaven Landcare Environmental Trust Stuttering Frog Project (See Shoalhaven Landcare website for more project info). Hopefully these little guys will boost the numbers in a dwindling population.

18.01.2022 Our beautiful bushland and wildlife have sustained some damage and we are embarking upon a detailed assessment of the impact. Thank you to everyone who has offe...red assistance and support. We now have water stations set up across the affected areas. Over the coming months we will be working with our regional partners to look after our native flora and fauna and those animals that have sought refuge on our properties.

18.01.2022 What to do in this time of Coronavirus induced self-isolation. Baking is good! But, baking a soil themed cake is even better. A challenge that will no doubt be... taken up by the SKNs own award-winning baker, Ian Packer. In 2018 SKN member Roy Lawrie attended a World Soil Day event at Berry with Shoalhaven Landcare and Landcare Illawarra. While there was some discussion about soils - the highlight of the day was the soil cakes for afternoon tea !! The winning cake (shown below) had great textural horizons and a chocolate slab with nuts which represented a Permian extinction layer! Thanks to Katharine Brown for inviting us along. 13.01.2022 Great to get another Bandicoot photo close to the fire impacted areas in Kangaroo Valley. Shoalhaven Landcare is just scoping out our project for building log piles as enhanced habitat in areas where bandicoots are active. It should give them more hiding places safe from foxes.

10.01.2022 Now the weather is warming up what a fantastic time for bird watching. Last weekend Shoalhaven Landcare in conjunction with Birdlife Shoalhaven held a booked out Birds in Rainforests workshop at Wattamolla. A perfect day with a walk through the rainforest with a great group of people and lots to see. Thanks to Catherine for hosting, and Yolande for her fabulous presentation. 01.01.2022 What a great turn out on the 5th November for the Shoalhaven Landcare Annual General Meeting. Thanks to everyone who came and a huge Thank You to Jack Hinde our special guest for coming to enlighten us all on the finicky lifecycle of the Shoalhaven's very own Broadheaded Snake. Also a big Congratulations to all Committee members who were re-elected for another busy year of projects and works for 2021. And a huge thanks to all Shoalhaven Landcare members who contributed their time through such a challenging year. Looking forward to seeing you all out and about in 2021.

01.01.2022 Happy two year anniversary to these two girls! Snark and Violet are two eastern quolls born and bred at Devils at Cradle and Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary. They n...ow live in the wild on the south coast of NSW. Three of our ten female quolls reintroduced to the wild in March 2018 survived their first six months, after being released at Booderee National Park as part of a trial reintroduction to mainland Australia, where the species has been functionally extinct since about the 1960s. Despite the initial high mortality of quolls released into the park from a range of threats (foxes, domestic dogs and cars being the primary causes) these quolls have demonstrated they can avoid threats and go on to survive on the mainland. These quolls are true trailblazers and have taught the monitoring and research team led by ANU Fenner School of Environment & Society a vast amount about how to improve future reintroductions of this singularly beautiful, missing species. Reversing extinction is never easy. It has taken dedicated organisations including Parks Australia Threatened Species Recovery Hub WWF-Australia Taronga Zoo Sydney Aussie Ark and Shoalhaven Landcare and countless individuals who continue to go above and beyond the call of duty, along with years of testing and refining program methodology.
