25.01.2022 Year 12 HSC Visual Arts Body of Works 2020 A huge congratulations to the Year 12 Visual Arts students for their exceptional Body of Works! Despite the year that has been 2020, including bushfires, floods, and of course, COVID-19; our students demonstrated outstanding technical skill and conceptual depth through their beautiful works. Each person deserves recognition for their resilience and commitment to producing their personal best. Five of the students have been selected to exhibit, and one has been shortlisted for NEW HORIZONS 2021 at Shoalhaven Regional Gallery- Alana Lonesborough, Molly Brain, Grace Hughes, Rachele Fisher, Ian Sermonia and Jade Palmer. The exhibition showcases high achieving works from the south coast region and opens Saturday 6 February until Saturday 6 March.

24.01.2022 Mrs Goodsell and the SRC held a fundraiser for Year 12 entitled 'Decade Day' recently. It was a fun and fabulous day which allowed staff and students to dress as they did in particular decades - the 70s, 80s and 90s. Two of our enterprising Year 12 students, Nicola Boyle and Charlotte Walker, created a short video to cover our celebrations of the past. All filming was conducted in accordance with COVID19 guidelines. Thanks to all those who engaged so happily in dressing up and donating funds for Year 12's gift to the school. In such a sombre year, it was a lovely, positive day. Enjoy the video!
24.01.2022 Have you ever painted a couch? Well, it was a fun experience for some of our Visual Arts students recently. Students from years 7-11 worked collaboratively on our entry for the Couch Surfing Art Exhibition, a community event raising awareness about youth homelessness in the Shoalhaven. Our design was bright and colourful, inspired by 80’s street artist Keith Haring, featuring fun characters connecting and supporting each other.

13.01.2022 Year 12 Final Assembly, 2020 The Year 12 cohort of 2020 will be finishing school on Thursday this week, with an assembly to celebrate their achievements and completion of their final year at school. It has been a difficult year, and we are really proud of these young people for their efforts. The assembly begins at 9.30 am and students are reminded that they are to attend, and wear full school uniform. They will meet in the library at 9.10 am with their Year Adviser prior to... the assembly. Unfortunately we are still not able to allow families to attend, due to COVID19 restrictions, but have organised for families to be able to live stream the event or obtain a recording of proceedings. All students were issued with the details for obtaining this link. Please contact the Year Adviser, Mrs Carson, if you have questions, by Wednesday this week. The students were given the opportunity to vote when they wanted this assembly and selected this date via a majority vote. We look forward to the Year 12 Formal next term, when parents and carers can be part of the celebration for their graduation from school, post the HSC exams. Delighted to have been your DP, Year 12! Keep aiming higher and study hard for your final exams. It will be worth it! Mrs J McDonald.
12.01.2022 On Tuesday 1 September the Berry Mens Shed Scholarship recipients, Charlotte Walker (Year 12) and Dhruvi Vihol (Year 11) visited and received a tour of the Shed. The girls are very grateful for their scholarship and will be putting the scholarship funding towards their future education goals. This is the seventh year that the Berry Men's Shed have funded the scholarship, and we want to thank them for their continued support.
12.01.2022 Year 12 classes in Term 4. Year 12 students are reminded that their classes will continue for the first week of Term 4. The Department of Education has put this into place for Year 12 students across the state, in order to allow them continued academic support as they prepare for the HSC examinations. This is particularly important, given the challenges faced by students in 2020. Support students will also be able to continue their learning in their classes. Mrs McDonald, DP.

04.01.2022 The Year 12 Final Assembly was held today and was livestreamed to homes via the link provided to the families of our Year 12 cohort. It was a more intimate environment than usual, because of COVID 19 restrictions, but staff were there to support the students and it was a joyous and wonderful celebration of their successes at our school. They have proven to be a remarkable and resilient group of young people, given the challenges the year has posed, and this was acknowledged f...ully by Mr Rees and Mrs Carson in their farewell speeches. The video symbolises what our school wants for this cohort - that they don't stop believing. I put a letter/ poster in their portfolios to remind them to forge forward as well - C.S Lewis, the famous writer of the Narnia books, wrote " You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending". We believe in you too, Year 12, as you head for your final exams and the future. Mrs J McDonald Year 12 DP. You can view the assembly from the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_78rd7dVO00&feature=youtu.be
02.01.2022 Year 6 - 7 Transition 6 - 7 INFO NIGHT CANCELLED Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, we have had to cancel the 6-7 info night that was happening next Tuesday 24 November.... We are in the process of putting together a virtual information resource video that will be posted on Monday 30 November. This video will be uploaded to our website and the school Facebook page. The video will provide all of the information required for your child to start Year 7 in 2021. ORIENTATION DAY - Tuesday 1 December The good news is that the orientation day on Tuesday 1 December will still be going ahead. There will be restrictions put in place to adhere to department regulations, however, we do endeavour to ensure your child has a valuable day that allows them to experience what High School is all about. The day will commence at 9am in the school hall. Students will spend the day engaging in sessions in various subject areas, immersing in some of the things we offer at SHS. Students will be able to access the canteen during their recess break, however, they will need to bring their own lunch, as there will be no access to the canteen during lunch. The orientation day will conclude at 2:30pm, allowing students time to exit the school and make their way home. Students will need to make their own way to Shoalhaven High School, unless your primary school has arranged otherwise. Please ensure students are ready to arrive on their best behaviour and follow Shoalhaven High School's core values of: - respect - responsiblity - safety - participation We look forward to meeting the Year 7 class of 2021 and showing them what Shoalhaven High School is all about.
02.01.2022 Last Thursday and this Monday our year 7 and 8 students participated in some fun initiative games and Indigenous games presented through the Active Kids Program. Schools in the Shoalhaven have been targeted as an area where the students have not accessed the active kids vouchers. These provide students with $100 twice a year to help pay for sporting uniforms or registrations for some sports. Parents are required to fill in a form and submit it and they will receive the voucher. The link to access this is https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/tr/apply-active-kids-voucher
