14.01.2022 Beautiful block printing! Block printing definitely holds a place a pride in India. It involves the age old craft of dyeing and colouring fabric using wooden blocks. Although it has been adapted through various parts throughout India, the process originated in Rajasthan. The process of block printing sure is laborious. The blocks are made of teak wood, with the design intricately hand-carved. They are then soaked in oil for 10-15 days to soften the timber. The fabric is first... washed so it is free of starch and any tie-dyeing that is needed is completed. The fabric is then pinned to a printing table and the blocks dipped into colour and pressed onto the fabric. This process is repeated until the fabric is covered in the required design. Precision is key. The fabric is than dried in the sun, steamed, washed, dried again and lastly ironed! How incredible is this process??! Video credit: Vandhan Handicrafts

13.01.2022 My wedding reception lehenga (dress) which I had remade into what we call a frock suit in India to make it easier to rewear! All the detailing is all done by hand Traditional ethnic wear in India is far from fast fashion. Each piece can take anywhere from a few weeks or many months to create, with each aspect from the dyeing to stitching and embroidery slowly being performed. Incredible isn’t it?! Amazing how these skills and styles have been passed on for centuries and continue to admire and inspire
