23.01.2022 Recent reports show a 70 per cent increase in skin cancer rates for people aged 25 to 49 since the 1990s. Below is a brief guide to Malignant Melanoma. Malignan...t melanoma is the least common but more serious form of skin cancer, which can be fatal if not caught and removed early. It usually appears in or near to a mole, and can spread to other areas such as the lymph nodes, liver and lungs. It is disproportionately high among young people and people most at risk include those with pale skin who burn easily, those who have suffered past episodes of sunburn, people with many ordinary or unusual moles, those with a family history of melanoma and those who have previously had skin cancer. Common places to develop melanomas: In MEN - the back, neck and chest In WOMEN - the legs and arms Remember, changes can appear anywhere including areas not exposed to the Sun. All changes to any mole should be checked by a doctor. The ABCDE guide is an easy way to identify some of the most common things to look out for.
