18.01.2022 We have been incredibly fortunate over the years to attract and retain a truly lovely and passionate group of bakers, pastry chefs and baristas to work with us at Shortstop. We already knew they had heads full of great ideas and the drive to make those ideas a reality, but to watch on as they launched their new businesses in the middle of a pandemic was truly inspiring. Here are a few new businesses from some current and previous Shortstop employees that started during l...ockdown Patchanida (Patti) Chimkire was a much loved member of the Melbourne kitchen team a few years back who has since gone on to start Mali Bakes, a small batch bakery delivering the gooiest home-baked cookies around town and more recently expanding her services to creating Melbourne’s brightest and most Instagrammable cakes. Fiona Ivey is the younger sister of one of Shortstop’s founders and worked with us in our first few years of operation. She left to pursue a passion in baking and used the pandemic to launch a sourdough bread delivery service, dropping loaves of freshly baked bred on doorsteps in the inner city of Melbourne. Fiona's Bread is 100% organic and, for the first time, you can pick up your favourite loaf in person at the Coburg Farmer’s Market this weekend. Jo Chan is a more recent addition and current pastry chef working with us in Melbourne. When she is not waking up at 4am to produce your favourite donuts, she is brainstorming her newest cake to add to the Atelier Josun line-up. Today you'll find a few specials on our shelves, including the Matcha Lamington Cake - coconut cake donut, filled in a few pockets with a house-made matcha jam, dipped in a matcha glaze and topped with toasted coconut. 04.01.2022 UPDATED HOURS It can get a bit busy on the weekends at our little store on Sutherland Street in Melbourne's CBD. To help ease congestion, and to ensure that everyone is able to safely practice social distancing, we have decided to open our doors a little earlier and close a little later on both Saturday and Sunday. SUTHERLAND STREET... Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm Saturday to Sunday 8am to 6pm If you want to avoid the crowds (and score the absolute freshest donuts), we'd recommend dropping in at 8am this weekend!
