24.01.2022 A huge, huge, huge congratulations to Short+Sweet veterans Caitlin Hill and Peter Wood, who opened "Boys taste better with nutella" (which you may remember from 2016's festival) at the Melbourne Fringe over the weekend. They still have 4 more shows, so Melbourne Short+Sweeters, get on it! "After winning Best Production, Best Script and Best Actor at Short+Sweet 2016, Boys Taste Better with Nutella is now touring and will soon be performing at Melbourne Fringe this September. An award-winning comedy that uses hilarious observations, kitsch dance moves & hazelnut spread to explore the best (and worst) moments of past relationships." 23.01.2022 ONE NIGHT, TEN SHOWS, ONE SECRET ACT Its all happening this Sun 18 Aug at 7pm! https://bit.ly/2Ikz1ga Catch our Judges Choice from Strand Four The Coconut Collective Clan this Sunday in the Powerhouse Theatre!... Written by Shannon Maugham Directed by Nicolas Angelosanto Performed by Shannon Maugham, Johanna Lyon & Jennifer Laycock The CCC is here to give you an insight into a new way of being that will change the way you live forever. Whether youve realised it or not, coconuts are the physical portal to the divine spirit, our connection to the universe and so gosh darn tasty. 21.01.2022 To our wonderful artists and supporters, As you will all be aware, the pandemic of Covid-19 is having an enormous impact on the arts and entertainment sectors, with many if not most organisations closing their doors or limiting their accessibility in the interest of public health. Short+Sweet QLD is not immune to these changes, and we cannot in good conscience ask our artists or audiences to endanger themselves and their communities.... Accordingly, we are postponing 2020s festival, and will return bigger, better, and healthier than ever. Particularly, wed like to apologise to those of you who have already put your efforts into our applications. It was looking like a hell of a year. For those of you that have applied already, well be keeping your applications on file, and will get in contact when we have other opportunities! Stay Sweet, Sean, Josh and Molly

20.01.2022 With just under three weeks to apply for Short+Sweet 2020, its time for our next artist exclusive Calum Johnston Calum is a long term supporter of Short+Sweet, performing in a multitude of roles including an Uber delivery driver with two lines which he claims, "was the best!". Since his delivery driver days, Callum has moved up in his star ratings, taking out our 2019 Short+Sweet Award. With his history with Short+Sweet, we asked what keeps pulling him back for more, "...I ...love that the festival gives opportunities for artists to put their ideas in front of a large audience. The amount of stories I have heard about shows that have been in short and sweet and are now traveling their longer pieces to festivals to great success has been amazing. I will continue to support this festival and I look forward to seeing what strange, wonderful and human stories come along this year." Be like Calum, become a Short+Sweet artist! 19.01.2022 Next up for our artist interviews is Geordie McGrath Geordie started with us in 2016 and has used Short+Sweet as a platform to develop his cabaret's, 'Shoes Wisely' and 'Geordie McGrath Presents: A Very Good Dance'. With these works, he's won both our Best Cabaret Production Award & our Best New Artist Award. We asked Geordie what's come out of his Short+Sweet work and believe it or, we helped land him a job! "...My boss happened to come and see, 'Shoes Wisely' during the ...heats, ended up really liking it and got me in to do a little bit of writing for his company. That job has now blossomed and grown over the last few years and now I work full time for Quiz Meisters Trivia doing copywriting, creative development, and a whole bunch of very cool things." (Geordie McGrath) We're not saying you might get a job but, you might get a job Lasting words from our friend Geordie were, "I'm a deeply cynical person, but it's hard not to look at Short+Sweet Queensland and think, this makes Brisbane better." Help make Brisbane better, be a part of Short+Sweet 2020. Apply here: https://linktr.ee/shortsweetqld

19.01.2022 *********CASTING OPPORTUNITY********* The Game is an exaggerated action drama about high school handball and follows the story of an Indigenous Year 11 called Cameron, as he makes friends with Pyrrhus, a new student from across the world. Below is more information on the story, shooting schedule and character description. Synopsis ... A high school handball tournament turned civil war at Wantibirri State High. For years, the two major competitors were Cameron, the honest, hard working kid vs Mr President, the mob boss who always gets his way. This year, there is a new kid in school. Pyrrhus. Turns out he is a natural talent. Sparking an argument between Cameron and Mr President about who gets to recruit the new kid. Pyrrhus sees straight through the deception and decides to play on his own. The three face off in the final battle. A game that will go down in history. Ending the war At least until next year. The briefs for the two characters we are looking for are as follows: Cameron: The only Indigenous Aussie at the school and seen as an outcast but with superb handball skills. Cameron tries to see past who people appear to be and sets merit based on their actions. Hes generally lax but finds himself wanting to do more for the people around him, despite how okay he may seem alone. When he steps onto the handball court however, he lives and breathes for the competition. Jim: Jim is best friends with Cameron and the logical voice of the group and film. Hes always there when hes needed and helps his friends understand the overall picture of the situation. He can be quite a suck up to Cameron though. We are open to applicants of any ethnicity for Jim. Shooting Dates We plan to shoot from the 10th 16th of this month (next Monday to Sunday). You can contact me on 0435 745 907 or email at [email protected] . We hope to hear from you soon

18.01.2022 Artist Exclusive In this blast from the past, we check in with alumni artist, Shannon Maugham! Shannon has worked with Short+Sweet for the past five years, writing and performing her shows in our theatre and cabaret strands. She has since taken her 10 minute works and extended them into full hour productions, going on to present them at other venues and festivals such as Sydney Fringe Festival. Considering she can't seem to get enough of us, we asked Shannon what she enjoy...s about working with Short+Sweet, "I like that its one of the only ways in Brisbane where you can test work... Short+Sweet is the open mic spot for theatre. I think it's particularly good for performers who are just starting out and want to practice their skills. You expand these skills by writing and performing but also by watching other performers work. It's a win win!" Be like Shannon, become a Short+Sweet artist!
