23.01.2022 When it comes to kettlebell swings, we teach our members to bring the kettlebell only to a shoulder/head height. This is a safe measure and there's absolutely no need to swing the kettlebell any further. You may have seen some people swinging the kettlebell all the way to an overhead position, though we avoid this because it can easily lead to shoulder injuries.... Why? Because most people simply don't have the range of motion in the shoulders and thoracic spine to safely bring the kettlebell overhead. 1. If the person doesn't have this overhead mobility, the explosive nature of the kettlebell swing can cause the soft tissues of the shoulder to run into the bony structures surrounding the shoulder, leading to shoulder impingement issues. 2. Couple this with the close hand grip that a kettlebell demands, and you close the shoulder joint even further, compounding the above issue. 3. The kettlebell swing is primarily a posterior chain exercise (glutes, hamstring and lower back). By pulling the kettlebell to the overhead position, you end up involving the shoulder and arm muscles, which essentially takes away the extra hip power you could develop from using a heavier kettlebell to the safe shoulder/head height. Come and check out our Kettlebell classes, and learn how to safely swing your way to improved strength and cardio fitness!

15.01.2022 It goes without saying that having good spinal mobility goes a long way with the longevity of your shoulder health. 15.01.2022 Breathwork is a dynamic mind-body practice used to enhance mental well-being, clarity, energy and inner calm. We are able to use the breath to affect our nervous system, physiology, endocrine system and circulatory system in a positive way and better manage stress in all its forms. Book your spot in our upcoming Fundamentals of Breath workshop Sept 20 @ 9.30-11.30am... https://www.facebook.com/events/329091968242742

15.01.2022 The Cat Stretch is a common stretch that focuses mainly on the opening (extension) of the thoracic spine. A little tip with this one if you want to increase the stretch in this area, a subtle change you can do is "tuck your tail down" with your pelvis. What this does is round the lower back (lumbar spine flexion), which in turn moves the stretch up a little higher into the thoracic spine and between the shoulder blades.... Give it a try!

12.01.2022 We'd like to wish you and your family a safe and happy Christmas!

11.01.2022 If you recently missed out on our fully booked Fundamentals of Breath workshop, we are hosting a last one for the year THIS SUNDAY 8th of November! From my own perspective, the last workshop was very well presented by Campbell Will and included a lot of great information. The key points that I personally took from it and implemented were: 1. How to reduce stress and improve focus. ... 2. Improving my training by using the breathing methods while resting between strength work, or while going deeper into a stretch. 3. It has definitely helped to improve my sleep (most of the members know this is a HUGE one for me) and create a solid routine that I have been following since the last workshop. I highly recommend you attend if you missed out. I'm looking forward to doing it again, since there is always more to learn about breath work! More info and reserve your spot via https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fundamentals-of-breath-tickets See you there - Dave

11.01.2022 Awesome progress from Elise! Of the three main entries to a handstand (straddle, tuck and pike), the pike entry is the hardest. This is due to the pike position requiring the most hip compression and thoracic extension of the three, as well as having the longest lever (straight legs). ... A few weeks back Elise was finding difficulty with this entry, but with practice she's now getting great consistency and control. Come and see why our handstand classes are so popular and fun! 2 and 4 week trials available at www.shoshinmovement.com/intro

02.01.2022 A beautiful video made by one of our regular students, Holly Holly has been training with us for 2 years now, and in this video she shows a montage of how her handstand training has progressed throughout that time. Starting from no handstand, Holly has unlocked the inverted strength and freedom to be able to move in and out of all the main shapes with ease (straddle, tuck, pike as well as a contortion shapes), perform multiple press to handstands, and is now beginning t...o dive into the one arm handstand. We're blessed to have such a dedicated and hard working student and we're honoured that our studio has been a positive influence on her life! As always, onwards and up(sidedown)wards!

02.01.2022 Eva has been with us for the past 3 months and has made amazing progress on her handstand.
