12.01.2022 SideChallenge #6 No diary, calendar or organiser for the day. Brain Challenge - Organisation, Planning & Memory Organisation, planning and memory are things we use in our daily habits. When someone with an acquired brain injury loses the ability to do this, they may lack routine and have difficulty structuring their thoughts and time. This can result in challenges with thinking ahead and carrying out steps in the right sequence, anticipating consequences, concentrating and re...membering a plan. Using a diary, maps and visual reminders are some strategies used to make life easier. Share your experience #SideChallenge

11.01.2022 #SideChallenge 9 - No talking for an hour. Brain Injury - Stroke - Left side of the Brain (Aphasia) Stroke usually affects one side of the brain. Movement and sensation for one side of the body is controlled by the opposite side of the brain.... The left side of the brain controls the ability to speak and understand language in most people (in some left-handed people, language is controlled by the right side of the brain and awareness by the left side of the brain). Aphasia means you have problems speaking and understanding language. You may be unable to find the words you need to put sentences together. This is like having a word 'on the tip of your tongue.' Not all strokes cause aphasia. About 20 percent of stroke survivors have a loss of speech and language.

Brain Challenge - Treating People with Brain Injury respectfully Trying to explain a brain injury or impairment to a child is difficult as the effect of each disability is unique to the person. Two people with an acquired brain injury may present differently, despite their injury being in the same area of the brain. It is important to remember when engaging with people with a disability to treat them respectfully. This invo...lves remaining patient and understanding, ensuring you are not condescending or dismissing them in any way. Share your experience #SideChallenge

04.01.2022 Hi Sidetember Legends - we have today found out that challenge #7 didnt get through the interwebs and on to our Facebook page - sincere apologies. So, better late than never, here it is. #SideChallenge 7 - Get dressed with one hand Brain Challenge - Coordination - Stroke... A common physical side effect of stroke is weakness or paralysis to one side of the body, in one or both limbs. This can cause significant difficultly completing everyday, simple tasks we do without thinking. As a result, daily tasks take longer and require more effort, potentially causing frustration and reduced satisfaction. People may need to adapt the way they used to complete activities, or require assistance of a person or equipment. Share your experience #SideChallenge

03.01.2022 SideChallenge #11 - Brusha-Brusha-Brusha Brush your teeth with the opposite hand. Brain Injury - Front part of the Brain The front part of your brain is used for remembering habits. When this part of the brain is damaged, people may need to re-learn how to complete everyday tasks. More time, effort and concentration will be required to do tasks that would have previously been done with ease. Using your non-dominant hand is a way to simulate what this may feel like and the ass...ociated feelings of irritation. Share your experience #SideChallenge
