25.01.2022 The 8:20AM update from YVW.
24.01.2022 Police seeking information on yesterday’s accident.
24.01.2022 Ensure home fire safety whilst working or studying from home. Many fires start with overloaded power boards.
23.01.2022 Today marks then end of the winter fire restriction set in place for the Yarra Ranges Shire. Please ensure if you are planning on burning off as part of your pre-summer preparations that you adhere to the Council's local laws and always register your burn off.
23.01.2022 Late night update from Yarra Valley Water. As of 8:00PM tonight (28th) a boil water advisory remains in place for Silvan and surrounding suburbs. Full list of affected areas below.
23.01.2022 As we all head back into lock down, once again it's cheerio to face to face training and other extra activities for the next six weeks. Like last time, we'll still be here should you need us in an emergency. #wecandothis
21.01.2022 About 10 minutes until Santa’s sleigh departs Silvan station.....get ready everyone
21.01.2022 Yarra Valley Water update as of 9:30PM 29th. Please read carefully. Some suburbs have had their boil water advisory lifted, whilst it is still in place for others INCLUDING Silvan. Great news that we're going in the right direction.
21.01.2022 Evening Everyone....here is a video from today’s Santa run.... We would love to see your photos/videos of Santa from today, so please feel free to post in the comments....
21.01.2022 Silvan, Wandin Rescue and Seville brigades along with Police and Ambulance responded to an accident on Parker Rd this afternoon. Hoping for a speedy recovery for the driver, and the Good Samaritan who went above and beyond to help a stranger. Please drive safe for the remainder of the holidays.
21.01.2022 After many months of only essential maintenance and video meetings, we are now able to get some basic pre summer skills checked off and return to a restricted training program (that is CFA COVID compliant), as we prepare for the coming fire season. Now is also a good opportunity to start thinking about preparing your property and to dust off your fire plan.
19.01.2022 Santa Claus is comin' t' Silvan The big guy is starting about 3:30pm TODAY! Listen out for our siren.... We'll be putting up another post later today to update on Santa's current location, so be sure to follow that.
18.01.2022 BE ADVISED Multiple trees down, Multiple powerlines down or hanging low across the road, Multiple roads blocked throughout the Yarra Ranges and Yarra Valley.... Take EXTREME CARE if you need to be out, but, it's probably better you don't head out unless you have to be. Our brigade, like many others throughout these areas, have been out attending calls. For SES assistance dial 132500, or, for life threatening emergencies dial Triple Zero (OOO)
18.01.2022 And just as we all just start getting our electricity back more windy weather forecast for Sunday 30th. Fingers crossed we don't see the destruction we saw on Thursday night.
17.01.2022 In times of emergency there's no guarantee you'll have power. Do you have a battery operated radio as part of your survival kit? Do you know the radio frequencies for local emergency broadcasters?
17.01.2022 Yikes! Our thoughts and prayers are with those over in the US at the moment.

16.01.2022 Things are starting to dry out. Don't light your fire and walk away. Don't leave the area immediately after you're done. Have a good walk around and check for hot spots. Saturate the area with water if needed.
16.01.2022 Whilst there's no word yet on fire restrictions for the Yarra Ranges, it's a good idea to be across what you can and cannot do before they come in. Follow the link to find out. Maybe even print it off and stick it on your fridge for quick reference when you need.
15.01.2022 Dear Residents of Silvan Annual Appeal Each year we have an appeal to help raise funds for our Brigade, this year will be a bit different as due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we will not be knocking on doors, however we are still able to accept Direct Deposit donations or donations posted to the Brigade.... Our goal is to engage with our community to assist us with fundraising that will help update equipment, including the future replacement of Silvan Tanker 2 and FCV, & station amenities to continue to meet the growing needs of the community. We receive generous support from individuals & local businesses and are hoping this can continue to help meet our goal and provide services within our local area. As a Brigade we were actively involved with Strike Teams, supporting the fires in NSW & Gippsland, before, during and after Christmas. Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic we are still responding to emergency calls to ensure the ongoing protection of lives and property within the community. With the assistance of CFA, the Victorian Government and the community we can provide services to those in and around our community in an emergency. Emergencies we respond to are not just fire related; we assist with hazardous materials and incidents, rescues, vehicle accidents/wash-aways along with supporting calls by neighbouring brigades, state-wide and interstate. You can donate directly into our Donations Account using the account details below. If a receipt is required, please email [email protected] with details of your deposit and include your name and an address so a receipt can be issued. 15.01.2022 It’s not every day you find a tip truck having a sleep on the side of the road! This morning we were called to a single truck rollover, thankfully no one was seriously injured (apart from a few trees) and the driver was able to climb out. We did however find an up cycling opportunity for our old esky that has served us well, and today responded to its final call....as a catch tray for the hydronic fluid that was leaking.
14.01.2022 Crews from Silvan Brigade are currently on scene assisting DELWP PortPhillip fire-fighters at a fuel reduction burn near the intersection of Silvan Rd/Track16, just west of Silvan Reservoir. The fire is burning well producing a smoke column that is visible for some distance . It's hot and dirty work but necessary to help reduce fuel loads in the lead up to the fire season.... DELWP crews will continue to patrol the fire's edge over the coming days. #WeWorkAsOne
12.01.2022 BOIL WATER NOTICE Yarra Valley Water has issued a boil water notice affecting numerous suburbs including Silvan and surrounding suburbs due to last night's storm. This is in place until at least tonight. Full details available by following the link.
12.01.2022 That’s it for Santa for 2020....in a few short minutes, Santa will be heading to the Nth Pole....we would love to thank Santa for visiting Silvan this year and thanks for everybody turning out and supporting our Santa run and finally to the Silvan FB crew for making it happen.....we will see Santa back in 2021......
11.01.2022 Silvan and Monbulk brigades were called to a potential electrical fire in Silvan. Access was tricky with numerous trees down through out the area. Thankfully, no house fire! But, if you’re out and about in the morning the district has been hammered with trees and powerlines down everywhere, including at the MT Evelyn end of Henderson Hill Rd, which is blocked by power lines. Drive slow and drive safe. Thanks to a Silvan resident for their assistance with their excavator and getting Monbulk Rd back open tonight.
11.01.2022 Let's all "spring forward" in time tonight as daylight savings starts. Clocks change 2:00am this Sunday 4th October. Changing our clocks is a great reminder for us to check, clean and test our smoke alarms. #onlyworkingsmokealarmssavelives
10.01.2022 What a wild ride this 12 months has been for us all.
10.01.2022 It's especially important in times like this where we are separated from those we care about to stop and ask "R U OK". Give someone a call, or have a zoom coffee. Just remember, there's more to say after "R U OK". Learn what to say at ruok.org.au... Let's look after each other and get through this together.
10.01.2022 Victoria will reimpose stage three restrictions for six weeks from 11:59PM, Wednesday 8th July, in the Metropolitan Melbourne Local Government Area's (which includes Yarra Ranges Shire) and the Mitchell Shire in a bid to slow a rapid spread of coronavirus. More info available at: https://www.abc.net.au//coronavirus-australia-liv/12427970
10.01.2022 Wow! That much drying in a month! Restrictions are already in place in the North West of the state. No dates set yet for the Yarra Ranges Shire, so best start preparing and clearing your property now before a date gets set.
10.01.2022 Crews from Silvan Fire Brigade and DELWP PortPhillip are on scene continuing yesterday's fuel reduction burn near Silvan Rd/Track16 . Much like yesterday, today's burn is producing a large column of smoke easily visible from as far away as Woori Yallock. #WeWorkAsOne
09.01.2022 Thanks for the hot tip.
09.01.2022 Heading away this Australia Day long weekend? You must always fully extinguish your campfire with water - NOT SOIL If your campfire is cool to touch, it is cool to leave ... For campfire safety rules and regulations, go to www.ffm.vic.gov.au #camping #campfire #doitsafely #australiaday
06.01.2022 This morning some of our members completed their entrapment/burn over drill in preparation for the upcoming fire season. Other members will be completing this essential skills maintenance over the coming weeks, in accordance with the CFA COVID guidelines and the CHO, which is how this morning’s session was conducted. This essential skills maintenance ensures all our members safely know what to do in the unlikely event that the crew need to go into burnover while on the fireground and is a requirement of CFA before fire seasonis declared.
04.01.2022 Good news from Yarra Valley Water. Boil Water Advisory for those on mains water in and around the Silvan area is now lifted. Follow instructions below from YVW to ensure you get fresh uncontaminated into your house plumbing.
04.01.2022 Do you and your family all know what to do in a fire or where you're going to evacuate to? It's hard to remember things when you're flustered in an emergency so have it written down and easily accessible.
04.01.2022 Evening Everyone.....Silvan Fire Brigade has had word (from the Nth Pole) that Santa would like to visit Silvan and take a ride on one of our Fire Trucks......please keep an eye on our Facebook page for further updates.
03.01.2022 DELWP PortPhillip crews will be on scene today (Wednesday) finishing off the fuel reduction burn near Silvan Rd/Track16. Their fire-fighters will continue to monitor the area over the next few days to ensure it stays within containment lines. We've attached some more photos from our crews who were assisting on Tuesday.
03.01.2022 Today we stand along side Victoria Police and remember those who didn't get to come home, those who died in the line of duty whilst protecting our community. This year, due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, a virtual National Police Remembrance Day (Victoria) memorial service will be streamed on Victoria Police YouTube www.youtube.com/VPBlueTube from 10am AEST on Tuesday 29 September, in lieu of a traditional service. Download the digital service booklet https://go.v...ic.gov.au/nwPHs6 #NPRD2020 #BlueRibbonDay2020 #BRD2020 #illstandbyyou
