18.01.2022 The Anxiety Disorders Association of Victoria, Inc presents an Information Session on the causes and treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder with clinical psychologist, Simon Kinsella. OVERVIEW Some people develop Post-traumatic Stress Disorder after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event and symptoms can flare suddenly with little provocation. With the right approach, PTSD can successfully be treated. In this Information Session, Simon will describe how PTSD is ca...used, including the difference between simple traumas and complex trauma. The symptoms, both from the point of view of the person with the condition and the people around them will be explored. He will then outline an evidence based treatment approach, and the expectation that we can have regarding recovery. The main therapeutic strategies presented will be CBT and Imaginal Exposure. Audience: Sufferers of PTSD, family and friends of affected individuals will benefit from attending this. ABOUT SIMON Simon Kinsella is a Melbourne based clinical psychologist, and director of Corporate and Personal Consulting. He holds statutory positions as an Independent Medical Examiner, as a panel member of the disciplinary review board for the Psychologists Board of Australia, and as the Deputy Chair of the ACT, Tasmanian and Victorian Regional Board of the Psychology Board of Australia. He is also the current series psychologist for Masterchef. Since beginning work as a psychologist in 1993 he has specialised in treating anxiety disorders, including PTSD. He has helped 100s of clients overcome the consequences of trauma, and get on with their lives.
