25.01.2022 Great tips from Zoe on weight regain

25.01.2022 Have you only lost 2kg this month? This is 2.1kg of fat. Celebrate how far you’ve come . #weightlossjourney #wlscommunity #bariatricsurgery

22.01.2022 #brunch on this rainy Sunday. What are your Sunday plans ? #breakfast #brunch #plantbased

22.01.2022 Clinic update. Remember self isolation helps support our community from spreading the virus to immune compromised individuals, which in turn reduces the load on our healthcare system. At the moment our clinic remains open. If you’re unwell or in self isolation we can offer phone, Skype or Zoom consultations. Unfortunately we cannot claim Medicare rebates or DVA for these consults. However if you are a private patient, you can switch comfortably to these alternative methods of consultations. Be sure to contact us to let us know!

22.01.2022 A whole range of factors are involved in weight regain. Some you can change. Some you can't.... Factors you can change include: Irregular eating patterns Eating highly processed foods Inadequate physical activity Inadequate sleep Stress Weight increasing medications. (Sue Cummings | ANZMOSS 2018) Yes, some of these, you alone cannot change, such as stress levels and weight increasing medications, but you can seek support to do so. Be sure to seek support and take control over those things you can change. Sally

20.01.2022 Great ideas from our friends at Nutrition for Weight Loss Surgery!

19.01.2022 Trying to be more #selfsufficient. @iddyinthelab used his science skills to start our vegetable garden. We have basil, parsley, tomato, spring onions, chilli and spinach beet (cross of spinach and silver beef). What do you have in your garden?

18.01.2022 Have you seen a ‘globe zucchini’ before? I planted this tree around three months ago and it’s sprouting some massive fruit to eat after the recent rain. How should we use it?!

16.01.2022 Do you eat quickly? This is the number one issue I see in practice. Eating slowly helps you enjoy your meal and then feel satisfied. If you eat too fast, you’re not savouring the flavour and then you may look for more food quickly after. . Now there’s nothing wrong with eating more if you’re hungry, but it takes us 20 minutes to feel full. Therefore if you eat slow, then you can eat until you’re satisfied and most likely prevent overeating! . Is this something you... need to work on? I am the slowest eater so this isn’t my issue but I have lots more to work on. #mindfuleatingtips #dietitiansofinstagram #smarteating See more

16.01.2022 These patients have lost hundreds of pounds over and over again, Dr. Twells said. The weight that it takes them one year to lose is typically back in two months, often because a body with longstanding obesity defends itself against weight loss by drastically reducing its metabolic rate, an effect not seen after bariatric surgery, which permanently changes the contours of the digestive tract. Great Read!

16.01.2022 Sorry not sorry . It’s hard being a dietitian when people asking what you do for work. Then you get into a big conversation about diet and health. I love what I do, but sometimes you need a break from talking about food and nutrition! Happy Saturday!

15.01.2022 My son and I went on a treasure hunt this morning. We planted these when they sprouted after not eating them fast enough. They bloomed and once the plant died, we dug them up. Looking forward to giving them a taste. #homegrownveggies

12.01.2022 #sugarcravings. Many of us experience this. Myself included - I usually ‘crash’ once I finish consulting or as I walk in the door after work. Why does this happen? Our bodies are designed to run on fuel over the whole day. Usually the body prefers to use carbohydrates in the form of glucose or sugar to use for energy. However, sometimes we may miss cues to feed our body or skip meals or not fuel appropriately. This may cause us to crave sugar, especially easy sugar like ...chocolate, lollies, biscuits or soft drinks, as it gives us a boost of quick energy to help us get through whatever activity you’re up to. Often this happens later in the day around 2-5pm. So why does this happen? 1. Eat enough - during the day if we don’t eat enough low glycemic index carbohydrates (think brown or whole grain bread, cereals (oats or muesli) rice, pasta or crackers) and protein (eggs, meats, tofu, legumes or dairy) in our meals, our body is missing the slow burning energy it likes to thrive off. Think of it as burning a log vs. kindling. To burn kindling you need to constantly add to the fire with more kindling. In this case, that’s sugar! In the forms I mentioned above. If we fuel our body with a log - lean protein and slow release carbs, you tend to ride a slow wave of hunger and fullness instead of peaks and valleys. 2. Skipping meals - meal skipping ties into the same point as above. If you skip meals, you’re more likely to overeat for the next meal while your body is seeking quick energy for the next activity. 3. Sleep. Sleep rebalances our hormones. When we have poor sleep it can affect our appetite as the body is tired and wants quick energy to last through the day. Sleep is one of the foundations to good health. Get some rest! 4. Manage stress. Again with the above point, cortisol is released when we are stressed. The body doesn’t know the difference between ongoing background stress and immediate (a bear is going to eat me) stress. Sugar is usually a easy fix as it helps with that quick energy to meet that energy need. #mindfulness helps here! I need to work on point three and four. What do you need to work on? See more

11.01.2022 Good Evening Everyone. I truely hope you had a fun and restful weekend. The COVID-19 situation is becoming more serious in terms of risk between us all transmitting the virus which may unfortunately make someone who is immune suppressed very unwell. Now some of you may be waiting for surgery, early post surgery or well beyond surgery however at times in our lives we are immune suppressed. I would strongly encourage you all to ensure you’re getting enough rest, fluid, eating e...nough protein and take your vitamins daily and consistently(!). Otherwise your diet may be inadequate in micronutrients. Now I have a question in regards to appointments/consults. There’s no ban at Ramsay Health as of yet however please let the office know if you’re in self isolation to switch to Skype or phone. You can email me at [email protected] to get me directly in regards to switching your appointments. The only issue we are having is that DVA AND if you want to claim your team care plan (Medicare rebate) it has to be a consult in-person. Maybe this rule will be relaxed for this unusual time but we aren’t sure. Business will be as usual unless otherwise notified! Stay safe and healthy everyone! Warmly - Suraya and the Simple and Easy Nutrition team.

08.01.2022 A reminder if you’re feeling overwhelmed this week. Loved the little chalk messages on our walk.

03.01.2022 Just headed to our local woolies. The Fiji Water and Bodiez protein water were on special. Great fluids for the fluid stage after #weightlosssurgery
