13.01.2022 Day 5 of Keep Australia Beautiful Week is Fast Food Friday: Planning a takeaway treat tonight? Takeaway food has been a popular choice throughout the pandemic as restaurants provide an alternative to dine-in options. So, its a good time to remember how to dispose of takeaway packaging responsibly with these 5 quick reminders:... 1. Plastic containers reuse them as many times as you can, then throw them in the plastic recycling bin. Make sure theyre clean first! 2. Cardboard pizza boxes can be recycled but only if theyre clean. If they're dirty, tear off the top and just recycle it. 3. Soft plastics plastic wrapping can be taken back to your local supermarket for recycling. 4. Styrofoam avoid this as best you can as it cannot be recycled so must go in the waste bin. 5. Plastic cutlery these are usually too small for recycling so need to go to the waste bin. Better yet, ask for no cutlery and use what you have at home or buy some reusable ones to take out with you. So, what will you be having for dinner and how will you #reduce #reuse and #recycle your waste?

12.01.2022 And today, the final day of Keep Australia Beautiful Week is...Single-use Cup Sunday. Are you waking up to a café coffee this Sunday morning? More than a billion cups are sent to Australian landfill every year. With many cafes no longer accepting reusable coffee cups due to the risk of COVID, single-use cups are on the rise.... Good news is you can recycle takeaway coffee cups at 7-Eleven Australia via Simply Cups. Any brand of coffee cup is accepted, and both cups and lid are upcycled into new products. Simply Cups has diverted more than 12 million cups from landfill in just a few years and is supported by many of Australias largest coffee sellers, including 7-Eleven, Muffin Break and The Coffee Club Australia Find local 7-Eleven stores: http://ow.ly/SUeO50B49jr

07.01.2022 Day 3 of Keep Australia Beautiful week is...Wet Wipes Wednesday! Anti-bacterial wipes are being used in much larger volumes this year to help stop the spread of COVID. But, theyre another item we need to dispose of thoughtfully to avoid harm to our health and our environment. Wet wipes must be thrown in the general waste bin. Just like tissues, they CAN'T be recycled and DEFINITELY not flushed down the toilet.... According to Sydney Water, even wet wipes marketed as flushable can create big problems with water management. 'Flushable' wet wipes may clear your toilet bowl; however, they do not break down quickly enough for our wastewater system. This can lead to blockages and sewage overflows into customer's homes and creeks. Alternative: opt for hand sanitiser if out and about. And, try washable cloth wipes with anti-bacterial gels or sprays when at home. Source: https://www.sydneywatertalk.com.au/wet-wipes/widgets//faqs
