17.01.2022 @myer fashions on your front lawn millinery award. The floating rose - Using techniques from my trips to Japan 5 years ago,The floating rose is constructed from Japanese silk, each petal and leaf is individually cut out then hand painted, wired, silk backings added, shaped and then made into the rose. A cloche block was used to create the crown with a Dior brim. It’s a humble piece in comparison to my past entries but one I’m very proud of none the less.... A tribute to my mum Rose Wilkinson, she’s 82yrs old, she hasn’t stepped foot out of her house in Melbourne since January, I’m in Darwin so I can’t even comprehend what thats like. My love of hats and millinery comes from sharing hats with my mum over 30 years ago (hats are the only fashion item we have in common ). It’s been an incredibly hard year for so many, even here in Darwin, my beauty business was closed down for three months, a time that I chose to reinvent which has taken all of my free time for the past 6 months learning new cosmetic tattooing skills. By July Darwin bounced back to almost normal and it’s for that reason that I chose to not post many photos of our racing carnival etc this year out of respect for my family and friends in Melbourne who are still stuck in isolation and not able to even visit a cafe let alone #Flemmingonvrc #Melbournecupcarnival . I’m greatful for the competition and excited to now share my entry with you all, I hope you like it. xx
