25.01.2022 Just having a technical problem on the members only group page - be with you soon - sorry - Colin

19.01.2022 Sing Australia Sutherland On Wednesday, 26th February, 28 choir members performed at St Vincent’s Care, Heathcote. The gig was well attended by the residents who were invited to sing along with our choir. We celebrated the start of a beautiful sunny day with Oh what a beautiful morning. A touch of nostalgia followed with our Valentine’s Day segment which included Love me tender and Save the last dance for me, both songs were obviously well remembered. The final segment was de...voted to celebrating pride in our country as we recover from the devastating bushfires. Waltzing Matilda, G’day G’day and I am Australian were especially received by our audience. The staff from St Vincent’s care also participated enthusiastically. It was a special morning for everyone. Barbara Archer - Leader, Sutherland Comment: Thanks for the report and the photos Barb. Congratulations on the gig. You would have given a lot of joy to many people. It is always so nice when the staff join in. You must have all felt very happy. Well done everyone. It looks like a lot of fun.

18.01.2022 About a month ago, how time travels when you are flat out, Margaret and I had a very lovely visit to Sing Australia Geelong. We hadn't been for quite a while and it was so nice to see everyone and have a great sing. Things went a bit crazy in our lives shortly after that visit and as such I haven't really had a moment to post this. So I am thrilled to be doing that now. Mary Simms is an amazing Leader. She runs the group thoroughly well and has done so for 10 years. She is ...a Life Member and so deservedly so. She and the members made us very welcome. I asked Mary to send me some notes on the group and I am proud to post that now as follows - 'Colin and Margaret, What a magnificent night thankyou to you both for coming thankyou Margaret for singing with us and for always being so encouraging and thankyou Colin for conducting and sharing your knowledge with us. Thankyou also for the appreciation you expressed to Angela, Maureen & myself. I hope you both had as good a night as we did though I’m sure you did you were smiling when you left. A little about us below Geelong group formed in November 2001 and we have just commenced our 19th year as a wonderful group of friends with approximately 30 members. Our conductor Angela Gionis comes with great musical experience. She teaches high school music, plays the piano and flute and has performed in many musicals and shows. Angela conducts with great passion and enthusiasm and helps the group to really appreciate the musicality with our singing. We are very blessed to have Maureen van Andel as our accompaniest. Maureen has played piano all her life, is a retired piano teacher, has played at churches, calisthenics groups in aged care settings and also has a love of singing. With Angela and Maureen’s combined knowledge and talent, we are extremely lucky in Geelong to work through so many of the songs from our extensive repertoire and our harmonies are really becoming strong. I also have a musical background, playing the piano, guitar and currently learning the harp. I am also a part of the Geelong Bellringers Choir. I work as a Lifestyle Co-ordinator in Aged Care and use music in many ways in my work as well for enjoyment and as therapy people living with dementia. Thankyou once again. Kind regards Mary Simms Comment. Thank you again Mary - you, Angela and Maureen and your wonderful team of helpers and all the members are terrific. Angela, is such a cheerful, supportive and encouraging conductor and Maureen is a delightful and very capable accompanist. We wish you all the best in this worrying time. Congratulations on your magnificent contribution to the Geelong community and lets look forward to lots of fun times together in due course. Stay safe all.

16.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone from Colin and Margaret, Mardi, Gian and Di.

16.01.2022 Special Message from Colin Slater, Founder and National Director, Sing Australia.

15.01.2022 Good evening Colin, I am emailing to tell you about an exciting opportunity for Hayden Barrington, who, as you know, is our much loved and very talented conductor. He has also conducted for Gordon and Wollongong and I know he is valued and appreciated by them too. I would be very grateful, if you think it appropriate, to have the following passage and photos posted on the Sing Australia website in the interests of supporting members of the Sing Australia family.... I have attached some photos that you might like to use: Hayden conducting our Regional Gathering for Sing Australia Day last year, Hayden conducting at a 2019 ANZAC Service, Hayden conducting at a gig at St Marks Church also in 2019 and the other is from Hayden’s professional career. Thank you for considering this piece: Hayden Barrington began conducting Sing Australia St George in 2014 when he was just 17 years old. He has done so much for us and we are now learning more complex songs and harmonies and having even more fun! As a conductor and teacher Hayden is patient, has a very accessible way of explaining things to us and a sense of humour that helps when we find things difficult. Hayden challenges us and we love his enthusiasm when we get it right! We consider ourselves very lucky to have Hayden as our conductor. Hayden is also a very talented singer who is developing his career in the classical field. Although, like most in the industry, his opportunities have been seriously curtailed this year, he is currently working with and recording for The Song Company. Hayden has entered the Australian Singing Competition which is completely digital this year and now called ASC@Home. Here are links to Hayden’s two entries and we wish him well in the competition. https://youtu.be/1yaTYA4gRxQ https://youtu.be/0yZDz8BLKVM One of the prizes is awarded on public vote so if members enjoy Hayden’s performance and would like to support him they can fill out the voting form at the link below. The category entered is Classical/Opera. https://mostlyoperaaust.wufoo.com/forms/sqyzcjk0w1hlh8/ NB ASC@Home only permit one entry per internet source, so if more than one person wishes to vote in the household, you may need to use data on your mobile device. Best wishes to you, your family and the team, Sue Allison Leader, St George Comment Thank you Sue for sending this. It is my great pleasure to do this. I am sorry to be dragging the chain. It is taking me a while to get through all the emails. But I see there is still time for members to vote. Closing end of June. We are very proud of Hayden and enormously grateful for all his great work with Sing Australia St George but also in helping out SA Wollongong for a while. He is very highly respected and admired. Very Best wishes Hayden.

12.01.2022 Dear Colin, thanks for your emails and advice going forward. This is to advise that Texas Qld. Group have read the email & had our singing on Monday 16 March with a St. Patties theme - (pic. attached. )This will be our last practice until further notice from you. While we are very sad that this has to happen, we realise that it is probably the best course of action in these crazy circumstances. We hope it won't have to be for too long. ! Best regards to you all. Anne (Donges...) Texas. Comment: Thank you Anne and thank you to all members in Texas. Congratulations. Thank you all for your understanding and support. The saddest thing in this is that you have already been through such trying times with the prolonged drought. We know you had a slight reprieve with some great rain in recent times but I know you need more - maybe next week - lets hope. However, to be safe we are not making any assumptions on where might be safer with the Coronavirus. Nowhere is safe while people travel around. We all admire your spirit in Texas. You are very inspirational. We send you our love and best wishes. We will feel in touch with you. Take care. Love the photo. Thank you Anne for your excellent communication. See more
