17.01.2022 It's a double celebration for steam next Saturday 13 December, with the 100th anniversary of the first loco manufactured at Thompsons Foundry and the 10th anniv...ersary of VGR's Maldon-Castlemaine service. A special train will be leaving the Maldon station at 2.45pm, with a re-enactment of the 'steaming out' of the first Thompsons loco taking place at Castlemaine station at 3.30pm. 06.01.2022 Big weekend in Maldon The 85th running of the Mount Tarrengower Historic Hillclimb, the Maldon & Baringhup Agricultural Show and the VGR WWI re-enactment are al...l on in Maldon this weekend. The Hillclimb takes place over the weekend - Saturday will be for practice at 1pm, while Sunday is competition day. Entry is $10 for adults, $5 for children and $20 for a family. Food and refreshments will be available. The 151st Annual Spring Show for the Maldon & Baringhup Agricultural Society will at the showgrounds in Lewis Road on Sunday. Family tickets are $20 and there will be lots of activities for children including face painting, slides and a jumping castle. Volunteers at VGR have been preparing the D3 639 steam locomotive for a journey honouring local soldiers in the first wave of enlistments following the declaration of World War One in 1914. The locomotive will leave Maldon at 9.30am on Sunday with the Castlemaine service planned for 10.30am before returning to Maldon and the commemorative service at midday. Organisers are encouraging passengers and spectators to dress in Edwardian style to help re-create the scenes when country towns farewelled their young men 100 years ago. See more
