25.01.2022 PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT NEW COVID-19 CASE CONFIRMED IN NEWCASTLE A third case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Newcastle. He is a male teenager who is a househo...ld contact of the teenager announced yesterday and the man in his 20s announced earlier today. Hunter New England Health is continuing to investigate the source of infection for all three cases. Anyone who attended St Francis Xavier's College (Hamilton East) on Monday 3, Tuesday 4, and Wednesday 5 August is urged to be on the lookout for COVID-19 symptoms and get tested immediately should any respiratory symptoms or fever occur. The school has been notified and will be closed for cleaning. Contact tracing is underway. All close contacts of the teenager are being notified and are required to seek testing and isolate for 14 days, regardless of their test result. Hunter New England Health is still working to identify any further contacts or venues visited by the teenager, and additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available. All close contacts will be notified and required to isolate for 14 days. The source of infection of the Newcastle family cluster is still unknown, so it is vital people in the community continue to present for testing if experiencing symptoms to limit the spread of the virus. We urge everyone to follow the directions they receive about home isolation and quarantine, and maintain COVID-safe practices of physical distancing, coughing or sneezing into their elbow, and regularly washing their hands. Hunter New England Health continues to operate a number of COVID-19 clinics in the Hunter region. For a complete list of COVID-19 testing clinics and booking details, please visit https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectio//Pages/clinics.aspx

24.01.2022 KNOW THE SYMPTOMS Following the recent increase in cases in the Newcastle and Port Stephens area and across the state, we have continued to ask the community t...o be extra diligent in looking out for symptoms and coming forward for testing. This is a perfect time to remind everyone to know when you should get tested. Symptoms of COVID-19 may include fever, cough, sore/scratchy throat, shortness of breath, or loss of taste or smell. Mild symptoms could also include fatigue, new muscle aches or pains, or a runny nose. If you have been identified as a close contact of another confirmed case, you will be asked to isolate for 14 days, and to get tested if you do develop any symptoms. However if you are not a close contact of a confirmed case, and have not developed any symptoms, there is no need for alarm. You should closely monitor your health, and if you do start to feel unwell, again even with just the mildest of cold or flu-like symptoms, make sure you get tested.

20.01.2022 Physical distancing in public means people: keep 1.5 metres away from others wherever possible avoid physical greetings such as handshaking, hugs and kisses... use tap and go instead of cash where possible practice extra care if you are using public transport read the guidelines avoid crowds if you see a crowded space do not enter avoid large public gatherings practice good hygiene stay at home if you have any cold or flu symptoms. Seek medical advice and get tested for COVID-19. Find your nearest clinic here https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectio//Pages/clinics.aspx See more

16.01.2022 The NSW Government is strongly encouraging NSW citizens to wear a mask in high-risk settings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in NSW. Wearing a face mask... provides an additional physical barrier to protect the community and help reduce community transmission. Continue to practise physical distancing, wash your hands regularly and if you are unwell stay in and get tested. For more information about the protection that masks provide against COVID-19 visit: https://www.nsw.gov.au/media-/health-advice-update-on-masks

15.01.2022 COVID-19 CONTACT TRACING UPDATE Firstly, thank you to everyone who has come forward for testing for COVID -19 as a result of the positive case travelling i...n the electorate last week. I have spoken with HNE Health about why more than 100 people had contacted me as of late last night to tell me that they had been present in one of the venues at the times listed but had not been contacted by anyone to advise them of what to do. NSW Health advise they are only contacting people who actually signed into the Hotel Jesmond, Wallsend Diggers & Mezz Bar or the Lambton Park Hotel during the time the COVOID positive man was present. This means if you signed in to the venue 5 minutes before he did, you WONTbe contacted, even if you sat directly beside him during dinner or at the bar. Not good enough I say. I will be following that up with the Minister. Thankfully the venues have been proactive in contacting as many people as they can to notify them of exactly what they need to do, rather than relying on media or social media to do the job. SO HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO Anyone who attended these venues may be at risk of infection and you must strictly isolate at home for 14 days from those dates and be tested for COVID-19. - Hotel Jesmond on 29 July between 7pm and 9pm - Wallsend Diggers on 29 AND 30 July between 9pm and 11pm - He also attended Lambton Park Hotel on 30 July between 8pm until 9pm. If you attended these venues after these times, you are at lower risk so you do not need to isolate, however, please look out for symptoms and get tested immediately if you develop any, even if mild. These venues have now been thoroughly cleaned and so there is no ongoing risk. As we need to spread the word, please make sure you let anyone who attended the venues know this information.

13.01.2022 There are new COVID cases in Newcastle. Please check out the latest info on venues /times visited by these people and follow the health instructions given.

13.01.2022 PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT (Updated at 11am, 3 August) Hunter New England Local Health District is urging anyone who visited the following venues to strictly isolate a...t home for 14 days from the date below and be on the lookout for COVID-19 symptoms. Get tested regardless of symptoms, but you must remain in isolation for the full 14 days even if your initial test is negative. Hunter New England Health is still working to contact those who attended the venues at these times and they should be on the lookout for symptoms. If you were at these locations during these times, you may be at risk of infection and you must strictly isolate at home for 14 days from those dates and be tested for COVID-19.
