This years' theme; 'Deep Blue: innovation for the future of our oceans' embraces the innovative technologies, capabilities and skills needed to achieve economic, environmental and social sustainability of our oceans.

25.01.2022 Thank you and congratulations to all of our Year 11s who applied for student leadership positions for 2021. We were impressed with their enthusiasm and courage throughout the application process. #gofarseemorereachfurther

24.01.2022 Our Year 12 Physical Education students took a different approach to learning utilising QR codes for an educational 'treasure hunt' and a fast-paced 'lightning lobby' revision activity in the classroom. 23.01.2022 Wow ... what an awesome three days of netball! Our talented young players have represented the College well both on & off the netball court to finish equal 5th in the State at this year's Vicki Wilson Shield Championships. A testament to just how well the girls performed is the fact that the only two teams they lost to during the three days (ie. Canterbury College & Helensvale SHS) both played off for 1 v 2 in the Shield Grand Final. Well done to all SJFC girls & thank you to the team officials involved!! #GoFarSeeMoreReachFurther

23.01.2022 The Sandgate Australian Football Club Sandgate Hawks are looking for female players. It's a great way to develop your fitness, meet new people and have a bit of fun!

23.01.2022 Our Year 9 girls had the choice of several themes for their wearable art piece this term. 'Trashion' was a favourite with student using recycled materials to create their piece. Floriana and Avante Garde was also a favourite choice for their mood board and wearable artwork.

23.01.2022 The Year 12 Alumni Mentoring Breakfast held yesterday was a wonderful way to wind down the Term. We welcomed back a small group of SJFC 'Old Girls' to share their career experiences and post school journeys with our seniors. The group was treated to a delicious breakfast put on by the Year 11 Hospitality class. Many thanks to; Felicity Sheppard, Nicole Sharkey, Jodie Cornell, Kathleen Cameron, Sarah Ramsden, Kim Abbott, Erica Werner and Michelle Steel who gave up their morning to share their experiences with our Year 12s.

23.01.2022 A belated congratulations to our senior volleyball team who represented the College at the annual Senior Schools Cup Volleyball competition on the Gold Coast. The girls trained hard in the lead up and played very well over the three days, finishing 8th overall.

23.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Tayla Gavin (Yr 7), Emma Finch (Yr 8) and Jasmine Soriano (Yr 8) who competed in the Preliminaries of 'The Quest' on 29 and 30 October. The Quest is a National Academic competition for Gifted and Talented students. With the over-arching theme this year of 'Connections' they faced a challenge based in three areas including Science, Math and The Arts. They came 5th out of 15 schools and the students they were competing against were aged up to Year 10. (They only missed out on 4th place by less than 2 marks). The Quest is a team competition based around gaining confidence in their potential to tackle very complex topics, to challenge boundaries and work cooperatively together. #gofarseemorereachfurther

22.01.2022 The Parish of St Joseph and St Anthony warmly invites you to our community of prayer by lighting a virtual candle. Through the following link https://lightacandleatstjosephsbrackenridge.com/ you can light a candle for a prayer in your heart. Historically Catholics have gone to church to light candles, as a symbol of the prayers we offer for family members, friends and neighbours. We pray for special events like baptisms, weddings and funerals. Sometimes our prayers are for... the wisdom of leaders, environmental challenges or the marginalised in our society. Prayer is our link to God and our common link to each other. Our local parish has created this inclusive website and welcomes the participation of the St John Fisher community. This is a beautiful opportunity to be included in our community of prayer and to see how our individual prayers play a vital role in our connection with God and each other. See more

20.01.2022 As the festive season and end of the school year rolls around,. finally.. many of us like to show our gratitude to one another with a gift. There is a strong tradition at the College for this gift to be one that pays it forward by donating to a charity or a worthy cause. This year we are encouraging our community to donate to our newly established bursary, founded in 2019 by three year 9 students. Realising and appreciating the opportunities their education provides, the fo...unding students, set about to create a Bursary to make an education at St John Fisher College available for students whose families are experiencing financial hardship. To make this bursary a sustainable one, the fund balance needs to sit at $50,000 with the current balance sitting at $7,676.68. Girls’ education goes beyond academics and opportunity, it is about ensuring girls feel safe and empowered to make decisions about their own lives. Girls face many more barriers to education than their male counterparts with women making up more than two-thirds of the world’s 796 million illiterate people. Through this bursary, we can offer a child a better life, a better future and the opportunity to change their circumstances with the power of knowledge and education. To donate head to: https://catholicfoundation.org.au//st-john-fisher-college/

20.01.2022 Last Tuesday the College received a special visit from Indigenous Elder, Uncle David to present the girls with their Indigenous shirt "Umbarra" - indigenous name for our totem-Black Duck. The special shirt was designed by Year 8 student, Charli Boga inspired by a story she wrote entitled; 'The beginning of the Ocean'... Long time ago the sea was a blackened blanket that covered the Earth. It looked very dark and lifeless from the sky above. The Ancestors saw this and wanted... to make it bright and colourful with life. So, they sent Spirit creatures from the sky. They travelled so far to Earth they left a trail of glittering lights of their footprints. The Spirits were so colourful that when they hit the water surface it lit up with lots of different colours, sending the colour around the Earth. From then on it generated life into the sea. And that’s when sea life begins. #gofarseemorereachfurther

17.01.2022 Twelve-year-old Super fish Olivia Watson has certainly made a splash at recent swimming meets achieving some remarkable results. In September Olivia swam at the ‘McDonalds Qld Short Course Championships’ where she won bronze in the 100m backstroke. She backed this up over the weekend at the ‘Medal Shots Long Course Preparation Meet’ winning the 50m and 100m backstroke and placing 3rd in the 200m Backstroke. 04.01.2022 Following the deadly explosion in Beirut, St John Fisher College and Rotary Aspley are joining forces to provide relief through an initiative called Shelterbox. The explosion has killed at least 170 people, injured 65000 and left 300,000 people without homes, decimating the city and livelihood of locals. Shelterboxes are large green boxes containing family-sized tents designed to withstand elements, providing emergency shelter to those affected, until they can rebuild their... home. One shelter box costs $1100 and every dollar is one step towards providing the temporary shelter many families need in emergencies. Kicking off the efforts with a good old fashion, coin line, the girls have raised $453 with the tally to continue as fundraising continues in term 4. To strengthen appeal efforts, the College will be running a radio campaign with 96.5FM, calling on others to donate what they can to this worthy cause. To donate head to https://www.shelterboxaustralia.org.au/

02.01.2022 Never has there been a more pertinent time for social justice initiatives than 2020. Recently our girls have been creating letters for members of our community who are isolated, due to health concerns with Covid-19. The Interact Social Justice Group has worked with the wider College community, the St Josephs Parish Youth Groups, Blitz and Rock, as well as staff members, who have all written very touching letters of solidarity. One student painted messages of hope through a...rt and words, a staff member created beautiful cards for the kids to fill, while other staff and youth group volunteers have written moving letters. The response has been heartfelt and surprisingly wide reaching. Around 34 letters and pieces of art work have been sent to the community in the last two weeks and they are continuing to be written. The youngest participant is 6 and the oldest in their 40s. It has also lead to a group of girls committing to long term letter contact with a group of residents at Opal Raynbird Place. Like the mustard seed, a small idea has grown more broadly than we imagined. See more
