22.01.2022 The Hospital Management Committee (HMC) visited all areas of the hospital yesterday to judge the 2020 Christmas Decorating Competition. They were impressed by the collaboration of our caregivers and consideration of the four awards categories:... 1. Best integration of the 2020 Christmas theme: Faith, Hope, Love 2. Best display of teamwork 3. Best integration of sustainable materials 4. Overall winners : , , Congratulations Theatre! Scope technician/PCA George took HMC on a magical guided tour of the team's decorations and their interpretation of this year's theme. It was evident the team wanted to ensure that patients experienced hope and love during their visit to theatre, which can be a scary and uncertain time. Congratulations to the Access Manager team! The team banded together and enlisted the help of family to create a magical lolly shop experience. Congratulations to the Dietetics team! The team wowed the judges with an 'interactive' display which included a balanced platter of delicious Christmas tree-eats. Hospitality was on full display with the team serving the judges home made shortbread and Christmas punch. We are delighted to announce the overall winners of the competition, for the second year running, is the Comprehensive Cancer Centre. The judges were unanimous in their decision and agreed that the Oncology team had gone above in beyond in creating a warm and festive environment benefiting patients, visitors and caregivers. The team are keepers of the perpetual trophy for another 12 months. A big thank you to all areas for participating in this year's Christmas Decorating Competition and helping to create a merry and bright experience for our patients and visitors.

11.01.2022 , is the theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week, a week that recognises and celebrates the history, culture and achievements of our nation’s first peoples. This year’s theme recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for more than 65,000 years and invites us to embrace our country’s true history. Today we unveiled new welcoming artwork by local artist Cassie Jetta, installed in the front hospital entry way.... This artwork depicts elements of local Aboriginal culture whole honouring the traditions and values of St John of God Health Care. Kaya (Hello) and Wandjoo (Welcome) are Noongar words, to respectfully acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which our hospital stands. The land is home to native flora and fauna including the reeds flowing across the artwork, kangaroos, and a wide variety of bird life. The Aboriginal symbol for meeting place acknowledges the tradition of gathering around a campfire for healing. This week, we, along with Bunbury Hospital, will be hosting events to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, and we encourage our caregivers, patients and visitors to participate wherever you can.

01.01.2022 As part of International Year of the Nurse & Midwife in 2020, we're profiling a nurse or midwife each week. Say hello to Clinical Nurse on Granada and Private Patient Liaison Nurse, Jodie Roberts : Jodie Roberts... : 29 years / ? Charles Sturt University - Bathurst University of Western Sydney - post graduate certificate in Child and Family Health Flinders University - post graduate certificate in Palliative Care ? Clinical Nurse Granada Palliative Care Unit Private Patient Liaison Nurse ? The opportunity to work in a variety of areas, specialities and roles. You are always learning, it’s challenging and thought provoking. I love being part of a supportive team, working collectively towards a goal of exceptional patient care, comfort and outcomes. One of my greatest joys involves mentoring graduate nurses and students, to help them develop their knowledge, clinical skills and confidence. It’s important we pass on our knowledge and support their pathway to a career in nursing. It’s difficult to choose just one experience or story after all these years, I’ve loved the ability to be able to work and travel, which has enabled me to meet and work with amazing colleagues that I now call friends. In my palliative care role, I feel privileged to be able to support and care for patients and families at their most vulnerable, hoping in some way I’ve made a difference! ? We moved to Bunbury from Sydney for my husband’s work, 18 years and 3 children later Bunbury is our home. I had previously worked at SJG Murdoch on Bridget Clancy ward and so when we moved I decided to join the SJG Bunbury team, I enjoy the friendly supportive work environment at SJG Hospitals. #yearofthenurseandmidwife
