23.01.2022 Absolutely! As a culture we don't have good words to describe the 'work' of parenting a newborn. Https://www.mother.ly/life/what-do-new-mothers-do-all-day

21.01.2022 This requires some thought. It definitely seems like being 'psychologically controlling' is not healthy. I'm wondering where teaching values fits in with the idea expressed in this article. What do you think? https://www.inc.com//happier-people-are-raised-by-parents-

20.01.2022 The model of counselling I resonate with, ACT, has lots of strategies and techniques to practice acceptance of this kind. https://qz.com//accepting-your-darkest-emotions-is-the-k/

20.01.2022 https://www.mother.ly//dont-let-me-forget-their-littleness On my daughter's 15th birthday I read this and I look up at her, so much taller than me, and in her lanky frame I can still see her at the moment of her birth, small, full thatch of wet hair and sleeping as she emerged out of the water into my arms. She was born in the caul into water, so protected by both that she didn't realise she had been born. I do remember! And I am grateful.

20.01.2022 I had a high needs baby too. Totally resonates. http://www.mamamia.com.au/high-needs-babies/

16.01.2022 We met this inspiring woman at United Hatzala in Jerusalem on our May 2017 trip.

16.01.2022 A blog post that expresses vulnerability but reminds us to seek 'thin slices of joy'. Very relatable. http://cupofjo.com/2017/04/personal-note-motherhood/

14.01.2022 This past week we moved house, leaving behind the house two of my children were born in and the only house my children know. I feel so grateful to this home that has provided my children with a stable, safe environment for their early years. The new home we have entered symbolises a new phase in our family's journey, where our parenting and family dynamics need to evolve to our now teenagers needs. https://www.wsj.com//what-teens-need-most-from-their-paren

13.01.2022 There was a man who used to work at my supermarket checkout who used to brighten up everyone's day - to the point that his queue was longer than the others because people wanted to speak to him, and it was the happiest, most patient queue you've ever seen. http://www.oprah.com//Elizabeth-Gilbert-May-2016-O-Magazine

12.01.2022 I often notice how my time perception warps between the experience of anticipation (time slows down) and living in an experience (time speeds up). This article has a practical suggestion that I plan to try. http://nymag.com//article/how-to-make-the-weekend-last-lon

11.01.2022 Those 120 hours with your Learner driver are a good time to practice this. http://www.understandingboys.com.au/the-best-way-to-listen/

11.01.2022 The only challenge is finding a way to get out of the house and have the time to do this. But definitely a powerful positive behaviour to alleviate feelings of depression. http://www.telegraph.co.uk//exercise-can-help-new-mothers/

10.01.2022 Our beloved 17 year cat disappeared one week ago. After a week of searching we have found him, no longer alive. In recent times we have discussed his advanced age with our children, in preparation. This evening our family dug a grave and had a short funeral. We'll keep a close eye on our kids over the next few days. https://childdevelopmentinfo.com//communication/talk-to-/

10.01.2022 Today I attended a workshop at the Health Complaints Commission on how handle complaints and tricky situations. Walking into a room full of strangers was daunting, as it always is. It was beautifully facilitated and soon I was talking to those around my table about meaningful issues. After only three hours we found ourselves sharing contact details as we had uncovered how we may be of assistance to each other. https://www.psychologytoday.com//why-you-need-start-having

05.01.2022 Im being led by the hand by my child, not the other way around. - Jaco has autism. His dad, Richard worries about how hell fit into the adult world.

04.01.2022 The most powerful paragraph in this article describes the 'jobs' of adolescence, which involve their working out the answers to some life questions. "Are my parents proud of me?" is one. https://www.washingtonpost.com//5b096dc4-1ade-11e7-bcc2-7d

02.01.2022 Important to remember. Many of us wear the mask.

02.01.2022 Whilst in the trip of a strong emotion it can difficult to believe that following these steps is the less painful path, when your mind is screaming at you to run away from the feeling. But it is truly so the less painful path. https://www.gottman.com//6stepstomindfullydealwithdifficu/

01.01.2022 On Monday I attended a seminar run by PANDA addressing perinatal anxiety. I was most moved by the realisation that most women experiencing perinatal anxiety don't reach out for help for months whilst suffering distressing experiences such as intrusive thoughts of harming their baby (that they will never act upon); rage and difficulty sleeping even when not disturbed by the baby. Almost 90% of women experiencing anxiety do not tell their Maternal and Child Health nurses even if asked. Women experiencing anxiety often present themselves as being "fine" or "good" and we need to ask more careful questions and pay close attention in order to notice what they are experiencing. There is support available!

01.01.2022 The powerful insight coming out of this study is that it's the quality of the relationship that matters - what makes a good relationship? http://thepowerofideas.ideapod.com/75-year-harvard-study-r/
