24.01.2022 Are you up to speed with the new Smoke Alarm legislation that started in 2017? Smoke alarms are extremely important - When you sleep, your sense of smell also sleeps. If a fire starts, toxic fumes can overcome you. Check out the new rules here: https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au//smokealarms/Pages/default.aspx

23.01.2022 Have you got young kids who don't love the dark at night. Here is a picture of a job I recently did installing some low wattage wall lights outside the clients daughters room to help find her way to the bathroom and feel safer at night. These things are great as they're not to bright and use very little power. Contact me now to inquire about a similar job or any other electrical needs.

10.01.2022 Electrical and safety standards are not always what they should be. I took these in Thailand a few years ago and their standards were even worse. Have you got any freaky pictures from your overseas adventures?

08.01.2022 As per law all residences and businesses should be fitted with RCD's. An RCD (Residual Current Device) is the industry term for a safety switch. An RCD’s main purpose is to prevent severe electrical shocks from occurring. An RCD acts as a life saving device; it detects and halts the power in an electrical socket preventing dangerous electric currents and fatal electric shocks. RCD’s are usually located on a switchboard but can be used portably. Every home and workplace sh...ould enlist in regular RCD safety switch testing to ensure they are working correctly. This can be done by pressing the test button on the front of the RCD or more accurately by a contractor with a tester which times its operation to ensure the safety of yourself and others. If your RCD does not operate when tested it should be looked at and possibly replaced by an electrical contractor. See more

05.01.2022 New smoke alarm laws now apply in Queensland New and substantially renovated homes are now required to have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in all bedrooms, in hallways where bedrooms are connected, and on each and every level of the residence. This applies to homes where building applications were lodged after 1 January 2017. Requirements for other homes will be phased in over 10 years. Interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms will be required from:... 1 January 2022 in all homes leased and sold 1 January 2027 in all other homes.

05.01.2022 FriYAY! Wish i had this much hair! What are you up to this weekend?

05.01.2022 What is lightning and should I be scared? Australia is renowned for its summer storms and we get some crazy thunder and lightning. While I love to watch the show my wife and many other people freak out and run for cover. My sister in law recently told me she holds her rubber thongs over her head if she is outside in a storm. Apart from giving me a good laugh, this will not help you one bit! So I thought I would shed some light on what exactly lightning is and how to keep safe.... Lightning is created from air water and ice moving around in thunder clouds producing a positive charge at the top and a negative charge at the bottom. Once this builds high enough due to opposites attracting it produces a very large electric charge and lightning which can contain up to 100 million volts of electricity and create heat up to 27,700 degrees Celsius. Obviously with such large amount of electricity lightning can be extremely dangerous killing around 2000 per year around the world. You do not want to be hanging around outside during a storm. The best way to stay safe during a storm is Avoid open areas. Stay away from tall trees, poles or towers. Move to a fully enclosed building preferably with wiring and plumbing. If a sturdy building is not nearby, get into a hard topped metal vehicle and close all the windows. Stay inside till 30 min after the last clap of thunder. Do not use corded phones during the storm. Mobile devices are fine. Stay away from electrical equipment. Lastly do not take a bath or shower during a storm as the pipes can potentially conduct electricity from a strike. So next time during a storm stay inside and enjoy the power from afar and stay safe. See more

02.01.2022 Hanging out with the girls at Chevron Island Physio and Pilates Wellbeing Centre. They even gave me a shirt!

01.01.2022 Did you know that LED light bulbs last for 20000 to 50000 hours which is well over 5 times longer than the next best option. Most LED bulbs run at 5 watts compared to 50 watt bulbs used in most common downlights making them more efficient and better for the environment. With all these things considered plus the fact that LED bulbs are now cheaper than ever it is a great time to make the switch.
