25.01.2022 The Kolkata unit of Le Arch was established in 1973 to provide food, medicine, shelter and a nurturing loving home for residents with intellectual disabilities. There are 15 residents and 21 children in the day care centre. The assistants stay together along with the residents so a family environment is provided, forming a relationship that is strong, unique and filled with trust and equality. Residents over 18 years of age are given vocational training. In the workshops the...y produce candles, cards, bags and our much loved Giving Hands Candle. We donate all the profit from the sale of these candles back to the centre for much needed medicine. A visit to the centre whenever we are in Kolkata is always a highlight with a warm welcome, smiling faces and a fantastic cup of Masala Chai! ~ A Note From Jan

14.01.2022 On our recent trip to India at the beginning of 2020 we were privileged to visit a rural village school about 15kms from Jaipur. The school was established and is supported by The Tree of Life Resort that encourages guests to visit the school. We were very impressed with the teachers enthusiasm to bring about change to these underprivileged children. Although the school is co-educational the emphasis is on educating the girl child so that the women can contribute financiall...y to the extended family. The school has no desks or chairs and we found the older students sitting for exams in the desert sand! Through our teams fund raising efforts, along with further support from our supporters and sales, once the children go back to school there will be new desks made available for 50 students.
