25.01.2022 Did you know that this uniquely stunning plant known as the Medinilla balls-headleyi, is endemic to only two regions in the whole world? Yep you guessed it, Tropical North Queensland is one of them! In fact, this very photo was captured by one of the rangers at Skyrail! Although rare, the Medinilla flourishes at Red Peak and is one of the most vibrant plants we have in this ancient rainforest You can also find this beauty growing in Cape York Peninsula, located approxim...ately 13 hours north of Cairns. Fun fact: The fruits from this plant were chosen as the inspiration for the Skyrail Rainforest Foundation logo, which you can read more about this by visiting http://www.skyrailfoundation.org/aboutus We feel super lucky to have such a rare plant growing in our backyard The Wet Tropics World Heritage Area sure does have it all! 18.01.2022 We are very proud of Skyrail Rainforest Cableway staff member Sarah, who is giving up her time during the COVID-19 pandemic to volunteer with the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation

17.01.2022 A window back in time... a time before the dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Plant and animal fossils tell us that parts of Gondwana was once covered with lush forests, with some of their ancestors living in the Wet Tropics rainforest today. : IG/lucygougnard #TheAncientRainforest

15.01.2022 We made a clip to celebrate #WorldRiversDay, take a moment to reflect on the importance of our waterways and enjoy being mesmerised by the Barron Falls in the #wetTropics of Tropical North Queensland

09.01.2022 Don't mind me! I'm just sitting here minding my own business looking pretty.. Recently, @keiranlusk was lucky enough to spot this beautiful cassowary whilst on his Skyrail experience. It's not often we get to see these stunning birds in #theancientrainforest, so when we do we get a little excited! Have you ever been lucky to spot one in the wild? #Cassowary #WetTropics : Keiran Lusk Photography

09.01.2022 The cassowary, also known as 'the dinosaur bird', plays a vital role in the #WetTropics and are well known for their epic gardening skills We are extremely lucky to have these birds living in the Wet Tropics Rainforest, as they are one of only a few species that can disperse large rainforest fruits and are the only long distance dispersal agent for large seeded fruits. Without them, the rainforest today wouldn't be the same! Fun fact - Recent research suggests a cass...owary's distinctive casque (helmet) may help cassowaries to feel the low vibrating sound made by other cassowaries over long distances. This unusual sense, called infrasound, was used by some dinosaurs, and is also shared by a few modern animals, including cassowaries and elephants. How cool is that?! Wanting to learn more about our prehistoric bird friends? Check out the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area page or visit their website - https://www.wettropics.gov.au/cassowaries #SkyrailRainforestFoundation

07.01.2022 An ancient partnership Did you know that the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area is one half of a very unique relationship? In fact, Tropical North Queensland is the only place where two natural World Heritage Areas meet the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforest The rainforest once stretched all the way out to the continental edge where the Great Barrier Reef grows today. It’s only in the last 500,000 years or so that rising sea levels flooded the rainforest to... create the foundation of the reef Just another reason why Tropical North Queensland is a very special place #SkyrailRainforestFoundation

06.01.2022 We embrace the rain during summer! 04.01.2022 Did you know... that there are so many things that nature can teach us. You will find that when you are exploring the rainforest at #RedPeak, you will automatically have a greater level of presence and awareness. By really immersing yourself into your surroundings, you will find that your senses will increase and you will notice the relaxing sounds and fresh smells of the rainforest. The stillness of the rainforest provides us with a greater level of clarity, and allows ...us to grow an appreciation for an ecosystem that is hundreds of millions of years old.. Nature teaches us to take pleasure in the simple things, which in turn, increases our overall happiness. : IG/ingrid__carter #TheAncientRainforest

03.01.2022 Not only are you looking at a mesmerising view of the ancient rainforest, but a landscape that contains one of the most complete and diverse living records of the major stages in the evolution of land plants in the world. Being 130 million years old, components of this rainforest are surviving fragments of the primordial Gondwana forests and are among the oldest tropical rainforests on earth. Fascinating isn't it?... Throughout your 90 minute Skyrail experience, you will be amazed at what you discover about the ancient rainforest.. #SkyrailRainforestFoundation : @ben.chuah

01.01.2022 The Wet Tropics World Heritage Area is a fascinating region; a living example of how the world once was. #SkyrailRainforestFoundation

01.01.2022 Australia’s Wet Tropics World Heritage Area truly is a living natural and cultural wonder. Being home to the world’s oldest continually surviving tropical rainforest, and the world’s oldest culture with 20 Rainforest Aboriginal tribal groups having land and cultural connections to it, there is no surprise when we say this fascinating living museum has been a refuge for the ongoing evolution of species that continues today right before your eyes! I don't know about you,... but we think this little pocket of paradise in Explore Tropical North Queensland is certainly something special! And only a 15 minute drive from Cairns CBD We can't wait to have you all exploring #TheAncientRainforest some day soon. #SkyrailRainforestFoundation
