24.01.2022 Although Sri Lankan Australians are one of the largest and fastest growing cultural groups in Australia, prevalence rates, factors that shape help-seeking and experiences of mental health are largely unknown. So the Centre for Mental Health is conducting an anonymous survey in order to understand our experiences. You are eligible to participate if you meet the following requirements;... 1. You are at least 18 years of age 2. You are English-speaking 3. You have Sri Lankan heritage 4. You currently live in Australia 5. You have access to a computer Click on the link below for more information and to participate in this important survey. This survey should take less than 30 minutes, and is exploring the community’s perspective, so it is open to ALL SRI LANKAN AUSTRALIANS. https://swinuw.au1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0ji9IiYPLaThn2B Please feel free to share among your family, friends and other networks. The more responses, the better understanding we will have of the Sri Lankan Australian experience.

23.01.2022 Recently, we were so upset to hear about the passing of one of the pillars of the Sri Lankan Community in Perth, Olga Ramasamy. Olga or just Aunty Olga, for those of us who were lucky enough to know her personally was an incredible woman with an exceptional attitude and a unique story. She taught us the importance of education becoming the oldest person ever to get a degree in WA, at 85 and always continuing to learn and enrich your mind. She taught us the importance ...of hard work and passion, boasting many successful years as the head of the Australian Asian Association, achieving so much for herself and our community. She was not only a figure to look up to in the Western Australian Sri Lankan community, but also a woman to look up to in all aspects. We will never forget the lessons she taught and the love she shared. We offer our deepest condolences to all her family and friends and anyone that was touched by her extraordinary light. Aunty Olga will be forever emblazoned in our hearts just as how we remember her, around the piano, singing with her family, with a glass of brandy in her hand and with a grin that lights up the entire room. Rest In Peace

03.01.2022 The important events surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement this past week has reaffirmed in us the importance of having open discussions. We wanted to start this discussion at home, in our SLAYA community, so this week we asked our old committee members to give us their opinions. We asked: As young people in 2020, we often like to believe that the society that we live in is one free of racial prejudice. Considering the events of the past few weeks, however, we now know the naivety of such beliefs. How did you respond, particularly as a POC in Australia, to the events surrounding George Floyd and the BLM movement?
