23.01.2022 BIRTH TRAUMA AWARENESS WEEK... Still so real for me 1+ year on. I truly wish that my birth with Sailah was anything but the one that I had. I am truly grateful for a happy healthy and safe arrival however the physicians pushed the boundaries to the absolute maximum & the outcome could’ve been much different had an excellent obstetrics team not stepped in & taken over... From a traumatic induction to the bungled epidural I felt as though my voice was never heard in the b...irthing suite and that the events that occurred throughout my labour were more focused on staff running from room to room and stretched to their limits with staff, resources and beds available. I birthed during the biggest birth week at the hospital to date & the quality of care showed.. I couldn’t wait to leave the hospital just 14hrs after a 37hr labour, the trauma & anxiety then followed... If I could give one person about to birth some advice it would be to stand your ground, ensure care providers follow your birth plan & in those moments you can’t speak have your birth partner do it for you.. To the health providers, please remember we are people, some of us have a long (IVF) journey to get our miracle babies and that your responses and actions during those split second decisions can have long term effects on the patients you care for. This time around I’m stronger, more knowledgeable and know that for my next birth (whenever or if ever that will be) I’ll do everything possible to make it mine, magical & my way! #birthtrauma #birthtraumaawarenessweek #birthstories #sleepplaygrow #mybirthstory #newbornbaby See more

21.01.2022 Mamas, if you have been breastfeeding for a while, you would have likely seen how your breast milk changes colour at different times. Did you notice how the com...position and colour changes from the early days of feeding? Or did you even see the change in your milk from the beginning of a feed to the end? Let’s chat through the different compositions of breastmilk! Colostrum: In the first three to five days after birth, mamas will produce colostrum. This is the first breast milk. Colostrum is generally very thick and has a yellow/orange colour to it. Although babies don't need much of it in those first few days, it is incredibly nutrient-dense and packed full of antibodies to protect your little one’s gut! Transitional Milk: Normally between day 3-5 post-birth, your milk transitions from colostrum to 'milk'. This breast milk is much higher in volume than colostrum. During this (approximate) two week transition period, the colour of breast milk typically changes from being thick and yellow to being white and much thinner, with a higher volume content, for your growing baby. Mature Milk: After about two to four weeks, your breast milk reaches its mature stage. This composition of milk won't change too much unless you or your baby gets sick (in which your body will develop an immune response and increase the white blood cells in your milk, amazing hey!). The most significant changes are from birth to this stage. Depending on the fat content of mature milk, it may appear slightly different to transitional milk. Love from Haakaa Come and see Brigid if you have concerns with your breast milk supply.

12.01.2022 Parent support and education is at the forefront of Sleep Play Grow - This is 7pm on a regular Thursday evening with parents crammed in a room (pre Covid) wanting to know how to educate themselves on their child's sleep Out of 20 parents, only 5 knew there were gentle & supportive alternatives to the old school cry it out and controlled crying methods you could use to better your child's sleep It is so humbling to watch these parents walk away with a better knowledge and unde...rstanding of gentle sleep solutions which they can confidently and comfortably apply from a 2.5 hour workshop that will have their child sleeping better within a short timeframe It is still unbelievable to me that Sleep education is not taught in antenatal classes or given the recognition it should through our public health system - I truly do believe if there was better education in regards to sleep pre baby then we would rapidly decrease the rates of PND & PNA
