23.01.2022 NIGHT LIGHTS___________________________________ Does your toddler or child have a night light? I wouldn’t be recommending a nightlight for your little one unless he has a fear of the dark. ... Children aged 2.5 years and above can have a real fear of the dark. My eldest developed a fear around this age, and it impacted his transition into bed. If your finding your child needs night light I recommend you keep it dull and just enough to offer comfort. If the light is to bright it may make it difficult for your child to fall to sleep and isn’t conducive to production of sleep hormones. I personally to tick this box with a diffuser inclusive of a dull light, scented with lavender or asleep blend and a timer to turn off in a couple of hours. BONUS - You can of course spend a lot of $$ getting yourself a a fancy diffuser with ALL the bells and whistles, but these super affordable Kmart bargains will do the job!

10.01.2022 So your baby is in a LEAP? We have all heard that word, we have probably used it to describe our children's behaviour. Our families have perhaps even 'rolled' their eyes at the suggestion that this 'leap' has turned our playful, happy, sleepy baby into a crying, grumpy, energy sucking, sleep striking baby... So what's going on, and why is this effecting his sleep so detrimentally? ... Simply put... A leap is a period of time in development when the baby is learning something new. During this time, the brain is forming so many new synapses, it literally wakes them up and they want to practice their new skills...sometimes in the middle of the night!! How can you help? - If your baby has developed the ability to resettle between sleep cycles independently, this will be less disruptive to you night - he may simply play/stir and return to sleep without your help - YAY! - If your young baby has started rolling, and gets stuck in a position that is unwanted, practice rolling from back to front, and front to back through the day. The sooner he consolidates this skill, the sooner it is not a problem! - Spend plenty of time being active, keeping your baby happily entertained through the day, but preventing over tiredness with long naps! Most of All - Don't be afraid of the 'onset' of these leaps! Try to enjoy your baby, read his cues and foster his desire to learn and develop! x

05.01.2022 NAPPING___________________________________________ Many mums are worried about using a ‘schedule’ or routining their babies for naps, for fear of being unable to get out, having to stay home all day. The truth...... Regular naps create predictability for you and your baby. He knows when it’s time to go to sleep, and you can easily plan your outings, gym, shopping, playgroup and coffee dates around that! Regular naps promote sleep consolidation, which promotes restorative sleep. You AND your baby will be much happier when he’s not tired! if your considering Nap training, know that it is a process, your baby is learning so stick with him. You should see progress within a week or two. If in doubt reach out - don’t give up
