18.01.2022 It's Global Handwashing Day today so we thought we'd reprise this special COVID-19 performance from our staff choir. Our thanks again to Neil Diamond for his support. And don't forget... keep washing those hands.
18.01.2022 Great grandfather David Low is finally able to sing again. I like to sing. But, I’m a little out of tune," the 76 year old retired engineer says. Earlier this year, David was diagnosed with COVID-19 and spent several weeks in the Intensive Care Unit at RPA some of them hooked up to a ventilator. Like many COVID-19 patients, he was susceptible to painful skin injuries called HAPIs (hospital-acquired pressure injuries) because he was unable to move. Today, we are marking Sto...p Pressure Injury Day which is dedicated to raising awareness about hospital-acquired pressure injuries and how to prevent them. Research has proven to be key - particularly during COVID-19. During the pandemic, it’s been recommended COVID-19 patients are treated in a prone (facedown) position during mechanical ventilation. It’s often for prolonged periods and puts patients at greater risk of getting pressure injuries on their forehead, chest, pelvis, chin, shoulders and knees. So, our Skin Integrity Lead, Dr Michelle Barakat-Johnson, her colleagues at RPA ICU Thomas Leong, Rue Carey and Kimberley Counter, and at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital ICU in Queensland, examined current best practice to reduce the likelihood pressure injuries would develop in COVID-19 patients in prone and supine positions. David Low also contributed to the research, which was published in a leading Australian journal, Wound Practice and Research. 17.01.2022 Getting tested for COVID-19 is still very important so we can keep NSW case numbers down. It's also free and easy to do. But don't take our word for it. Video blogger Tyler Blah goes behind the scenes at one of our pop-up clinics in the latest Episode of his Coronavirus series. https://youtu.be/r0O_gpUbUac

13.01.2022 A huge thanks to everyone who has stepped up for COVID-19 testing in the past few months. And a special thanks to those who have bravely had their nasal passages swabbed many times over. But please keep coming forward - it only takes one unidentified case to start an outbreak.

05.01.2022 Are you looking for a fun way to encourage children to look after their teeth? This poem was written by Sydney Dental Hospital dietician Lindy Sank, and is now being used by ACFF Global- Alliance for a Cavity-Free Future to help promote World Cavity Free Day. Nice work Lindy and thank you to those who helped bring the words to life.
05.01.2022 Shelley Tierney didn't hesitate to say yes when she was offered the chance to give her son Blake the gift of life for a second time. Blake was diagnosed with renal failure two years ago. He was able to have a kidney transplant at RPA earlier this year, after his mum Shelley turned out to be a perfect match. Today is DonateLife Thank You Day, and we'd like to recognise all of those Australians like Shelley, who make organ and tissue donation possible. To find out more about organ donation, go https://donatelife.gov.au/
