08.01.2022 Did you know we have lost almost half a billion animals in these terrible fires? A lot of our work is in the South Coast of NSW and its absolutely devastating to see the impact on Bushland and local wildlife. This is a great little organisation that rescues and rehabilitates our local wildlife. They are staffed purely by volunteers and are a registered organisation. If you can like and share their page, every little bit of awareness for a small group makes a huge impact.

06.01.2022 SNAKE AND SPIDER BITES - DO YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO? With hot rainy weather here in Sydney its the perfect environment for SPIDERS We caught this friendly little fellow last night at home and he was promptly handed over to our local Funnelweb hunter who will take him to The Australian Reptile Park for their anti-venom program... The funnelweb might be our deadliest spider but due to effective and immediate first aid treatment and our antivenom program, with around 40 bites a year- no one has died from being bitten since 1981 Having said that- knowing what to do immediately if someone is bitten by any snake or spider (treat all spider bites as serious and worry about identification later) can make a massive difference- which is why the accredited course Provide First Aid HLTAID003 includes training on bites and stings. If you havent done a first aid course in a while; why not consider a refresher and be confident to deal with any emergency this year For info on the AntiVenom program as well as spider identification, first aid tips and drop off points for any collected spiders click below https://reptilepark.com.au//spider-first-aid-drop-off-poi/

06.01.2022 Adrenaline (epinephrine) is lifesaving medication for someone experiencing a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). Antihistamines may help some allergic symp...toms, such as rash or itching, but they do NOT stop the progression of anaphylaxis. New research presented at the American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) over the weekend showed that administration of antihistamines during anaphylaxis can cause more harm to a patient than good (https://bit.ly/348X8WX). It is thought that administering antihistamine during anaphylaxis can result in a delay in administration of adrenaline, and delay in seeking immediate medical care at the first sign of anaphylaxis. If an unwell person is thought to be experiencing anaphylaxis because they have any ONE of the symptoms of anaphylaxis listed on the ASCIA Action Plan (https://bit.ly/2JtQhQc) then they should lay flat, and an adrenaline autoinjector - EpiPen - MUST be used. An ambulance must then be called. For more information about emergency treatment for anaphylaxis: (https://bit.ly/2BMjS35)

03.01.2022 A breakthrough for ARAN and common sense! After a lot of debate, lobbying and support from other groups passionate about improving cardiac arrest survival rate...s, NSW has changed its messaging to reflect worlds best-practice for the initial response to suspected cardiac arrest. The traditional and largely redundant DRSABCD advice for the public has been replaced with a simple message that is supported by the international evidence: CALL-PUSH-SHOCK i.e. the only 3 things that have proven to improve cardiac arrest survival rates in Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA - 85% of all arrests). Well done NSW Health this has shown leadership and resolve to implement this regime in the face of biased resistance from certain quarters. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/cardiacarrest//resources.aspx

03.01.2022 Funnel Web season is truly upon us, especially with warm rainy weather as of late. Check out this pic from one of our team members front yards! The Australia...n Reptile Park advises those who have Funnel Webs in their front or backyard to wear shoes, make sure no-one puts fingers in the holes, and to be more vigilant at night or after rain when they are most active. Residents in areas that have a high number of funnel webs are urged to know first aid and have a spider safety kit ready. The kit should include a glass jar with air holes in the lid, a plastic ruler to guide the spider into the jar and plastic (found in the bottom of a shopping bag). This, along with a compression bandage should be handy at all times Do you know the correct first aid for a Funnel Web bite? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0bBgPkN17I&t=32s More here on the Reptile Park and their love of Funnel Webs!- https://reptilepark.com.au//australian-reptile-parks-lov/

01.01.2022 Personal care workers make up the majority of the aged care workforce, but it is not compulsory for them to have first-aid training.

01.01.2022 Good video except times have changed from a 10 second hold to 3 seconds. Also in Australia we dial Triple Zero 000
