07.05.2022 Smartie Pants is participating in a pen pal program through the Koori Curriculum. We have received a letter along with a wonderful package from the children in the wombats room at the Bass Coast Children's Centre Inc in Wonthaggi, which is on Bunurong country. The children sent some amazing drawings of wombats, woven bracelets using grasses, yarn and feathers and a little handmade wooden wombat, named Waring, which is the Bunurong name for Wombat. Our second pen pal are the ...children from the Googarh room at the Indooroopilly Montessori children’s house IMCH, on the Jagera and Turrbal nation. We have sent them a hand puppet of Bunjil the eagle which is the creator spirit of the Wurundjeri People, some Drawings of Bunjil, and some hand decorated wooden beads turned into necklaces and bracelets.

We want to thank local residents for supporting us and local business during such hard and difficult times. If ever there was a time to show our Community Spirit then this is the year. The Community Christmas..Light Walk will be held on... Friday 4th December starting at 8.00pm We are encouraging all who reside in Diamond Creek, to come out of their homes for one night only for a group community walk. (masks may be required)

DET have announced Schools, Kindergartens & Child cares are able to allow photographers on the premises for outdoor photos only. To limit the time our photographer is spending at SP this year we are only offering photos to our Kindergarten children. Our teams are always taking photos in the rooms of the children engaging in the program and I'm sure they will have some to send you as part of their end of year scrapbooks.

15.01.2022 Today is the first day of NAIDOC week and we have lots of activities planned to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Floral Friday- we would love to encourage everyone to wear something floral or bring in some flowers from you garden at home to celebrate the Torres Strait Island. This week on our programs...... - Raising flags, and talking to the children about the significance of both the Aboriginal flag and the Torres Strait Islander flag - Matching games with Aboriginal symbols - Virtual excursions with Healesville sanctuary Nature play the Wurundjeri way - Connecting with Country whilst collecting natural materials for art - Celebrating storytellers such as Aunty Joy Murphy by reading her books Welcome to country and Wilam a Birrarung story. - Showing children art from different artist’s such as Bronwyn Bancroft and Garry Purchase hopefully inspiring them to create their own interpretations of Aboriginal art. - Watching some episodes of Little Jay and Big Cuz - Weaving - Listing to music of Aboriginal artists such as Emily Wurramara during sleep/relaxing times. - Learning to sing Innay which is a traditional Aboriginal lullaby
