21.01.2022 SSI always endeavours to value add when our trainers and technical writers are contracted by our clients. A recent example comes from a large mining company in Papua New Guinea where our staff were on site training and mentoring PNG nationals in Authority to Work (ATW)/Isolation and assisting in shutdown ATW planning. Whilst not on site to look at safety hardware, but after observing what isolation related hardware (locks and tags) was currently in use, our trained staff could quickly recognise opportunities for improvement and cost savings. 15.01.2022 Smart Staff International celebrates 20 years in business Smart Staff International has just reached its 20th year in operation. This is a significant milestone which we are very proud to have been able to achieve. When the business was first launched (at that stage as Smart Staff Australia) the objective was to provide the resource processing industry with operational and maintenance training material that people would use. This objective was borne out of the founding partn...ers first-hand experience of seeing poor training systems result in repeatable failures that led to production losses, excessive costs, serious injuries and the fatality of a close relative. The business has stayed true to the founding partners objective of improving processes that frontline employees are required to follow and is encapsulated in our principle of Creating Practical Workplace Systems. This underlying principle remains consistent throughout all of our services and supports our goal of providing industry with workplace training and safety systems that are practical, easy to use, have clear links to the risk exposure they are mitigating, reduce ongoing costs and save lives. Our unique approach has seen SSI expand its services internationally from minerals processing to oil and gas, mining, heavy industrial, food processing and utilities industries in the following areas: - Design and implementation of front line hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control (HIRARC) processes - Technical writing and training material development - Review, design and implement high risk work, hazardous energy control and permit to work systems - Confined space identification and risk assessment - Training and mentoring of safety advisors, permit authorities and isolation officers - Isolation point labelling and P&ID/PFD development and review - Auditing and gap analysis of safe systems of work - Provision of specialised labour (Safety Advisors, Isolation Officers and Permit Issuers) for commissioning, shutdowns or relief coverage Take a look at our SSI News page for some recent case studies that provide an overview of the scope of our services these days. http://www.smartstaffinternational.com/news.html I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our clients and partners and SSI personnel that we have worked with over these years. Repeat clients that have moved from site to site, company to company and country to country doing business with us and long term employees are some of our measures of success. Regards Dave Thomson

15.01.2022 The following case study is based around the work that SSI undertook developing a Major Hazards Facility Safety Case for a large LNG gas company developing an onshore processing facility in Australia.

11.01.2022 A leading oil and gas company required approval from the QLD Hazardous Industries and Chemicals Branch (HICB) to commence the operations of their facility. In order to obtain approval, SSI was engaged to manage each stage of the safety case and present as a complete package to the HICB for approval. This process included: Management and internal approval of the quantitative risk assessment process ... Collating together the required design documentation Facilitation of workshops to identify all required HSSE standards and development of these HSSE Standards Development of the HSSE description for the Safety Case HSSE Management Plan Review and approval of the Emergency Management Plan Development of the Security Management Plan approved by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority The oil and gas company received approval from the HICB for the Safety Case and operations were commenced. The parent company commented that the HSSE Management Plan was the best they had ever seen and would become their new standard template for similar future projects internationally.

10.01.2022 Developing key processes for clients SSI were recently engaged by a large port operation to improve upon their confined space management system. After on-site analysis of the organisations needs it became apparent that the fundamental cornerstone of hazard identification, risk assessment and control (HIRARC) was lacking and had not been promoted effectively throughout the business. 10.01.2022 Cost & Time Effective Technical Writing Scope of Work/Issue SSI was approached by a large construction company (EPCM) to develop 2,800 maintenance Work Instructions (WINs) that were required as part of the project handover of a beneficiation plant, rail and port operation. The documents were contractually required to be delivered from the EPCM to the client within a three (3) month period. 07.01.2022 Recent client feedback from a smelter in Queensland: I was just wanting to give you some feedback on Jim and Darren, they are both smashing out the work. The management team have said their work is exceptional, they are producing both quality and quantity documents which is assisting this project greatly. They both have a great reputation with the teams they work with, the guys they work with cant speak highly enough of them. They are very easy going guys and are willing to ...undertake any task without hesitation. As their supervisor I cant think of any faults, except the fact that we cannot clone them. Both Darren and Jim always have great safety improvements and ideas which is great to see. Jim has developed a few tools and improvements that the maintenance guys at the smelter are using currently. I had a meeting with our management team last week, and the outcome from that meeting was the documents being produced are (quote) fantastic. Jim McConnell
