24.01.2022 Females remain underrepresented in STEM fields. Less than 15% of domestic students completing engineering and related technology degrees in Australia in 2016 were females (Commonwealth of Australia, 2019). Although efforts have been made to reverse the trend, ongoing attention is needed to attract and retain females in #STEM. 01.01.2022 Some new research has just landed on COVID-19s effects on the heart. It is widely acknowledged that #COVID19 targets the lungs and the respiratory system, but did you know that it also affects the heart? One in four people hospitalised with COVID-19 suffers heart damage. Cardiovascular disease affects 4.2 million people in Australia and having the condition or other associated risk factors such as - high #cholesterol or blood pressure, #obesity and #diabetes mean that you are... more likely to be adversely impacted by the disease than someone with none of these problems. Dr Zaman, from the University of Sydney, cautions that people with an existing heart condition or other #cardiovascular risk factors need to be more vigilant and limit their risk of contracting the virus. In the context of the pandemic, improving these risk factors through health-related behaviour change programs is an important consideration for the future. We are curious to hear your thoughts on the mechanisms that can be used to encourage healthy lifestyle choices for people in high-risk categories. https://lnkd.in/gu6eRyv Griffith Business School, International Social Marketing Association (iSMA), Australian Association of Social Marketing #SocMar #Research #Heart #BehaviourChange
