24.01.2022 Last night our Year 10 , 11 and 12 Legal Studies students participated in our inter school mock court competition. Students from the prosecution and defence battled it out across 3 separate court rooms under the control of His Honour Justice Dean Morzone, Barrister Tim Grau and Associate Polly McKinnon. It was a fantastic learning event for all students involved with all 3 judges highly impressed with our students ability to navigate the courtroom and its protocols. Special mention and thank you to His Honour Justice Dean Morzone, Barrister Tim Grau and Associate Polly McKinnon for taking time out of their busy schedules to oversee the cases and provide judgement. Also a huge thank you to Miss McClosky and Ms Gryg for organising the event and the many hours after work preparing our students for the event.

20.01.2022 Nicole - Local Beauties Places are represented by the inhabitants within it whether it be through people, infrastructure or by its nature. Nature specifically is unique symbol of specifying an area and communication the diversity of the site. The experimentation of papermaking and manipulation of plants from various local locations I was able to represent the beauty of local environments through sustainable and ethical means. The papermaking created a non-literal meaning thro...ugh its texture and shape appearing like tree barks and having a course form like the earth. The process of pressing flowers was influenced by Joseph Banks that documented plant species on first arrival in Australia. This work moved me contemplate the environment and its importance. This then led to the creative process of sharing the beauty of nature sustainably and ethically. The need to protect the environment is not one I share alone but is something that must be evident in everyone. See more

07.01.2022 Fatima - Lunar Cycles Rhythms of nature involve all levels of organic life; cycles and the simplest patterns. Inspired by natural rhythms of Thomatis Creek, Lunar Cycles follows a series of stories describing the changing formal elements of the mangroves and water resulting from tidal flows. Thick lines and raised textures represent the simplified patterns of the mangroves. Drawing on the connections between the natural elements in the estuary, the finished positioning of a perfect rectangle creates a symmetry, mimicking the unity of the environment. I invite the audience to look for the hidden symbols and imagine themselves in one of these immersive natural environments.

04.01.2022 Yesterday, James Cook University (JCU), Smithfield State High School and Trinity Beach Primary School signed a Memorandum of Understanding today to continue their collaboration as the Tropical North Learning Academy. The Learning Academy is a longstanding relationship between JCU’s Smithfield campus and its neighbouring State schools. JCU Cairns Director, Dr David Craig, said the Learning Academy fosters cooperation in activities that encourage students to pursue their passi...ons and explore their learning and career options. This relationship acknowledges that education, including careers education, starts in the early years, Trinity Beach Primary School Principal Imogen Stager said. It creates opportunities for students, staff, parents and the community. It’s a unique partnership, Smithfield State High Principal Frank Brunetto said. It will provide students with not only the academic skills but also the social and emotional skills that are critical to success at school, university and in life.
