25.01.2022 The ability to market specifically to those who have already consumed a certain amount of a video ad you have already run has been available on Facebook for years, great to see LinkedIn finally offering what is a GAMECHANGING feature. It allows users to shove their hand up and say yes I am interested in this without have to click or comment or engage. In other words, they can passively self select as interested in what you are selling. Big deal.

21.01.2022 WRITING HEADLINES THAT CONVERT Headlines that convert are not about mystery or curiosity. That might get you clicks, but we are talking about conversions here. Conversions are about value and relevance. ... The difficulty is understanding what value and relevance is to your user at the exact moment they are reading your headline - its hyper contextual ie Facebook ad vs landing page vs thank you page vs button to submit form etc Heres an exercise to help you write better headlines; 1. Walk over to a whiteboard 2. Write your headline 3. Show that headline to someone who doesnt know what you are writing the headline for. It will be immediately clear if that headline is communicating the hyper relevant info we need to get the user to engage and read further or take an action. Better headlines = better conversion rate Give it a go and write the before and after in the comments! Or DM me them if youre shy, thats cool too. 20.01.2022 | ANOTHER JOB AD FOR THE UNICORN MARKETER | ok its rant time Just got sent another job ad by a friend from an agency looking for digital marketing unicorn. I have seen so many of these ads and they are a freaking joke, mainly businesses but occasionally agencies too. It must stop.... Key responsibilities usually include: - genius copywriter - expert videographer, shoot and edit - brilliant photographer - Google Ads champion - SEO legend - social media phenom, paid and organic across every platform that has ever existed - graphic design lord for digital and print - website management across all platforms - podcast sound engineering tsar - can do attitude - years of experience in each of the above fields - university degrees - data analytics savant - May or not be full time, maybe part time SALARY EXPECTATIONS - 60K Stop expecting unicorn marketers. Its ridiculous. Businesses, start properly understanding where your marketing dollars should be placed and put them there. Strategy is crucial. Scale outwards one channel at a time, and dont hand it all to one/two people. Agencies, stop being cheap. Rant over, thank you for your time.

13.01.2022 FRESH WEBSITE BY SMITH SOCIAL - BIGTALK BARBER Recently finished this website for the deadliest barber in the known universe, Joel Pinto - Big Talk Barber. Built on Squarespace with e-commerce setup and ready to go, onsite SEO setup complete with dedicated service pages aligned to his ongoing digital marketing strategy moving forward.... I took a tonne of factors into account before selecting Squarespace as the platform. 1. Ease of use - Joel needed to be able to change, update and operate this thing on his own, easily and quickly. 2. Ecommerce - Joel wanted to be able to sell a small, select group of products, easily with no fuss, so his clients could get the products he recommends easily and quickly online, direct from him. 3. Design & Feel - Squarespace themes are clean and crisp and ensure a lovely end product without days and days of design time if youre on a budget. 4. Bookings Integration - I had to make sure Joels booking platform synced nicely with whatever platform we chose, as we wanted to embed the booking widget directly on the website. 10.01.2022 || Perth Business News || Kosmic to re-open after being thrown a glorious lifeline. This story has been interesting on many levels; from a Perth business and marketing point of view, a retail business point of as well as a musicians point of view. On the whole, Im happy for Kosmic, a business that was a big part of my youth. I was a big fan back in my guitar playing days. Heading in there on the regular was a treat. ... I bought my first real guitar there. A Gibson Les Paul Standard, with a deep blue and black sunburst finish. It was a beast. It was heavy as hell, and really shone when recording in the studio. From a business point of view, music retail is a microcosm of retail as a whole. Any retailer that wants to survive the internet apocalypse needs to develop. They need to change. They need to break free of the past. They need evolve. Part of this is realising that you cannot rely on your previous audience and the traditional ways of reaching that audience. The new generation of players dont go where you used to be. Just being open, with product on the shelf isnt enough anymore. The other massive realisation is that you need focus on providing me something I cannot get online. And make that a big deal in your business. For example. when I used to go to a friends record store and hang out and buy records, it wasnt because I couldnt buy the records online cheaper, it was because I loved hanging out there. I loved being there. They had comedy nights, they had live shows - they had a community. I made friends. In real life. Walk in retail will always be there, but there are going to be many brands that perish in this continuing correction and reallocation of shopping behaviour. Its about experience. 09.01.2022 | NICE DESIGN DOES NOT EQUAL GOOD CONVERSION RATE | I love great design, but user experience trumps great design every time, and the key is understanding your brands average website user. I just finished initial analysis of a retail businesss website with a few stores throughout Australia and one store overseas.... Client is the Perth store owner, asking to decode the website analytics and social media reports theyve been getting from head office so we can put together a strategy to improve lead generation. Website is beautifully designed and communicated a high end brand. Would have cost a bomb. After analysing the limited data and the website, I uncovered a conversion rate crushing error. -- All store locations and contact details were only found on a single page each, dedicated to each store, only accessible via a single menu link -- The data supported this - only 13.4% of WA users were making it through to the Perth store page. As a medium sized business with low brand awareness, especially here in WA, this error is costing big revenue for the Perth store. Consider placing location links/info in your; - Header - Footer (with contact details for each) - Homepage sections - Contact page

05.01.2022 So Facebook has moved the the ability to schedule posts from a page to the publishing tools section. Small change but it communicates plenty. 05.01.2022 The attempts at imposing social media ad standards on brands and influencers are so overblown and here’s a perfect case study demonstrating that people don’t actually care. People might SAY they care. But they actually don’t. As I’m sure would be demonstrated by the incredibly small pushback these news programs would have received.... It should be left up to the brands, the influencers and their audience to disclose when and where they choose what an ad is and who paid for it.

05.01.2022 Q: Is TikTok for real? A: Yes. According to MediaKit, TikTok now has over 1.5 billion active users.... To give some context for that ridiculous number, the finale of game of thrones had 19.3 million viewers. 41% of users are between 16 & 24. Users have built massive followings. Self serve TikTok Ads are now in beta, and I cant wait to try them out when they are rolled out to all. As always, in the early stages of a social media platform (we are starting to see patterns in these platforms in the way they grow and mature), there is massive organic reach (ie free reach) available. Factor 1: whats everyone else bidding for your keywords? - Google Ads are run by auction. Your phone offers higher quality video settings, you just need to go into your camera settings and select the highest quality option! 01.01.2022 Q: How do I get more people to see my Facebook / Instagram / LinkedIn posts ? A: Make ENGAGEMENT your top priority. Not sales, not traffic clicks - engagement. All social media platforms have made engagement the key factor in deciding how much reach a post will receive.... The more likes, shares and comments you receive, the more reach your posts will receive. This is where I find many businesses lacking strategy. Generating engagement on business related posts can be difficult. Think about it from a users point of view - what kind of posts will actually make a user comment, or tag a friend? or share? I guarantee its probably not another pic of your showroom that youve already posted 13 times over the last year. What do your people want to engage with?
