20.01.2022 Albany, Western Australia - the Main Roads Western Australia Business Case for the Albany Ring Road has been submitted to Infrastructure Australia, and they are currently assessing whether it is acceptable for evaluation ... the question at this time is whether all Federal Candidates for O'Connor support the proposal - one assumes that State Cabinet endorsed the new ring road to nowhere that stops two kilometres short of the Albany Port (Princess Royal Drive).

18.01.2022 Stephenson Hepburn Plan - 1955 - How many people know that the original Stephenson Hepburn Plan 1955 proposed a suburban passenger transit railway service from Subiaco to City Beach, and then north through Scarborough all the way to Whitford City ... how amazing would that have been now had they built it into the urban fabric.

14.01.2022 13th Brigade - 12 Dec 2018 - The Centenary of ANZAC : They didnt make it back for Christmas ... the war was over but 100 years ago ANZACs were being killed by a new enemy - this time from the Spanish Flu epidemic which came to prominence in 1918 as the First World War ended ... it is thought to have spread to 500 million people world-wide killing some 20-50 million. These young soldiers (whose gravestones are pictured) were among 1200 ANZACs aboard the HMAT Boonah (A36), the... last Australian troopship to leave Fremantle, Western Australia on 29 Oct 1918 bound for South Africa and Europe - four days after the declaration of the Armistice, the Boonah docked at Durban, South Africa with orders to reprovision prior to returning to Australia ... the city was in the grip of the flu epidemic which spread to soldiers on the ship. When the HMAT Boonah arrived off Fremantle on 12 Dec 1918, it was quarantined with more than 300 flu cases reported ... unlike many other virus outbreaks, the Spanish Flu attacked and killed a higher percentage of healthy young adults than would normally be expected - thirty soldiers from the Boonah died either onboard or in medical facilities set-up at the Woodman Point Quarantine Station. The 15 graves were later re-interred in 1958 to the Perth War Cemetery in Karrakatta, including 27-year-old Staff Nurse Doris Ridgway of the Australian Army Nursing Service who volunteered with 23 others to treat those suffering from the illness.

14.01.2022 One of the missing transport links from the Stephenson-Hepburn Plan 1955 for the Perth Metropolitan Region Scheme 1959 - the southern ring road (Roe Highway) link to Fremantle Ports and the western distributor (Stirling Highway) - for those who remember Servetus Street (Swanbourne) and Stirling Highway (both North Fremantle and East Fremantle) .... metropolitan regional transport change rarely comes easy, cheap or quick.
