24.01.2022 Congratulations to former junior Giant & Redpa product - KALON NICHOLLS - on being selected in the SSA U15 State Team to play in the carnival in Launceston next month. Well done Kalon, an exciting future ahead for this young lad!!

22.01.2022 Congratulations Tucky - much from everyone that’s been involved with your career in Circular Head. Have a great game

20.01.2022 On the eve of his 200th NTFL/NWFL Senior match tomorrow - we as a Club want to recognise the contribution that GUY CHINA KEARNES has made on the football landscape. Although he would want no fuss, we think it is a fantastic achievement & one well worthy of acknowledgement!! After playing his first couple of years at the club in the underage, Guy made his senior debut at the age of 18 in 2005 under Cameron Blight. From a scrawny junior, he went on to become a key fixture in ...the senior side & was a big reason the club pushed deep into finals and ultimately the grand final of 2009, only to fall at the final hurdle to Ulverstone. Guy was elevated to Senior captain in 2014 to a young rebuilding team. He never took a backward step & led from the front showing his junior team mates the way forward. A couple of years away from the club at Forest Stanley has delayed his 200th but has allowed Guy time to focus on his young family. His welcome return to the Giants in 2017 & into the midfield group pushed the young side back into the finals. Not only has Guy been an onfield leader, but off the field he has no hesitation helping out behind the scenes. From waitering at Friday night teas, helping out in the canteen & bar, leading from the front at club functions & always one of the first to back up the next day to help clean up. Tomorrow Guy will run out for the 200th time as a senior NTFL/NWFL player. This year as a Wynyard Cat, a club that has opened its arms to him (& others) after our proud club has had to go into recess due to lack of player numbers to support people like China. From everyone, not only at the Smithton Football Club, but from all of Circular Head & surrounds, we wish you a fantastic game tomorrow night CHINA & hope you make your 200th a very memorable match! Senior games tally: Smithton Saints - 161 CH Giants - 34 NWFL Rep - 2 Wynyard Cats - 3 (& counting)

20.01.2022 A big congratulations to the Circular Head guys selected to represent the NWFL against the NTFA tomorrow in Launceston. Seniors:- Josh Gale - making his NWFL Rep debut on the back of some impressive games this season with the Burnie Dockers running out of defense. Tyrone Morrison - after a slow start to the season (hampered by a small accident) the big fella is starting to dominate the competition. This will be Johnny’s 4th time representing the NWFL.... U18’s:- Lachlan Blakemore - has made an immediate impact for the Penguin Two Blues senior team & will line up as the underage #1 ruckman in the curtain raiser. Ryan Nibbs - has been in everything for the undefeated Wynyard Cats U18 side. Kicking goals & running rampant through the midfield has earnt him his selection. GOOD LUCK BOYS!!

19.01.2022 At one stage the 200-game milestone for Guy Kearnes looked like it wasn't going to happen until Wynyard came to the party.

19.01.2022 Congratulations to former Senior coach - Jarrod Watling - who has been selected in the preliminary AFLQ (David Harding) squad for North Queensland to take on the South in Townsville on June 15th. Goodluck Watty, we wish you well! https://www.aflq.com.au/ex-afl-players-headline-intrastate/

07.01.2022 ANNOUNCEMENT- The Smithton Football Club held its AGM last night, and, as advertised, outside the normal agenda items the main discussions were held on the immediate future of the Football Club after being in recession for the 2019 season. Anyone that has followed the club since our decision to go into recession in February knows that the club was 30 players or more short to be sustainable in the NWFL competition. Over the past seven months the Board have been in discussion w...ith former players, potential future players and other various community members. It was abundantly clear that as we moved forward into the 2020 football season that unfortunately this player shortage number had grown due to some players from last years committed list either retiring, committing to other clubs, not playing at all or not returning for various other reasons. All possibilities were discussed at the AGM. Including a return in any format or to any Association, but playing numbers, long term sustainability, financial viability, responsibility to our members and life members, volunteers, competition and opposition clubs meant unfortunately in the current climate none of these provided a sustainable option both in the immediate or foreseeable future. After long deliberations and discussions, at the Board meeting held after the AGM, the regrettable decision was made to officially remove the Club from recession and voluntary wind up the Smithton Football Club due purely to the lack of numbers required to be able to fill the necessary teams. This is by far the hardest decision the Football Club Board has ever had to make and has been very heartbreaking for everyone involved. People are passionate about their football and this decision will raise a lot of emotion and potential criticism. As President I ask that everyone respects this extremely difficult decision and remembers all involved are volunteers who have done their absolute best in trying to keep the Club alive as the communities representative Club. We all had hoped for a better outcome. Thankyou for all those who attended last nights AGM and provided comment and thoughts we appreciate your time taken to attend the meeting. As President and on behalf of the Football Club Board I apologise for this outcome and we do sincerely wish we could be communicating much better news to everyone. In closing again, it is asked that any comments are made in a respectful manner and any inappropriate comments will be deleted. Regards Nic Bellinger President Smithton Football Club

02.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Damien Medwin tomorrow as he runs out for his 200th game. Yes, unfortunate that it’s not with our club as he has been an amazing servant to the Smithton Football Club. But you make the most of a bad situation & we can’t thank the East Devonport FC enough for throwing Boony a lifeline. All the best tomorrow champ & hope you have a great game!!
