23.01.2022 SNAICC Chair Muriel Bamblett: "[Closing the Gap] will be as good as community taking control and understanding the challenges we have. There's been lots of communities that have limited understanding of what they can do, and this [process] is about empowerment - it's about getting lots of community on the ground to be feeling empowered to address the child protection, the family violence issues, the justice issues, the education issues. "It's always been driven by very high...-level policy and very little on-the-ground movement, and what we're hoping for is that there can be no family that's left behind. "There's no use developing policies in the back end without our communities being able to be engaged." https://www.thewire.org.au//closing-the-gap-partnership-g/

15.01.2022 JUST ANNOUNCED: Congratulations to Vincent Namatjira on winning this year’s #ArchibaldPrize with his portrait of Adam Goodes, 'Stand strong for who you are'! ...‘We share some similar stories and experiences of disconnection from culture, language and Country, and the constant pressures of being an Aboriginal man in this country. When I was younger and growing up in the foster system in Perth, Indigenous footballers were like heroes to me. Goodesy is much more than a great footballer though, he took a strong stand against racism and said, enough is enough. I stand strong with you too, brother.’ - Vincent Namatjira The portrait is on display in the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prize exhibition, opening tomorrow, Saturday 26 September at 10am. Due to popular demand, opening weekend tickets are sold out. 02.01.2022 The Family Matters Report 2020 will be launched online on Monday afternoon!

01.01.2022 SNAICC CEO Richard Weston: "The changes being sought aren’t radical. They're just slight changes that enable Aboriginal people to be more involved, to exercise more responsibility, and to support the work governments are trying to do in keeping the numbers of our kids down going into out-of-home care. Community, families, and Aboriginal organisations have to become part of the process when children are at risk of being removed to get the best outcomes we can for the child. ...The new agreement talks about effective partnerships with Aboriginal people. That means that government departments or ministers can't be making decisions without our involvement. https://www.sbs.com.au//our-kids-are-our-decision-child-ad
