25.01.2022 WELCOME BACK CYCLISTS!! Monique and Simon are grinning under those masks, after escaping Melbourne and spending 3 glorious days riding the East Gippsland Rail Trail this week. Our first customers for 5 months.

24.01.2022 This is cycling heroism. Nancy, a casual cyclist heads off for 3 days towing an even more casual 4 year old, after cycle enthusiast husband Rob was struck down by a non covid flu and was stuck in bed. At the end.of 3 days and 70 km, Nancy was glowing, a total convert and ready to take on a longer trip with 9 year old Silas. #girlpower #railtrailsaustralia #loveeastgippsland

23.01.2022 Sherl and Tim are GO! 7 Along with a few million other Melbournians, they are quivering with excitement to be heading off on an adventure. Four days on the Est Gippsland Rail Trail coming up! #loveeastgippsland #railtrailsaustralia #bicycletravel

20.01.2022 Snowy River Cycling goes on holidays. Im aboard the NSW XPT, heading as far north as we legally can go, bikes packed in regulation cardboard boxes, ready for 10 days cy ling down the coast using the excellent CycleWayz App . Excitingly, in NSW we were able to book our bikes on the train, a level of modernity Victoria hasn't achieved. Then again, we had to pack them down into boxes. No doubt there will be a large rubbish receptacle to dispose of all the packing at our destination.

19.01.2022 Thanks for the kind words Malcolm: great to.have your update on the trail post fires, and also for smaller wheeled bikes.

19.01.2022 Ride's end at Taree station. We had planned to reach Newcastle, a few days more ride south, but our waiting-for-test-results break changed that. Instead of a roll on roll off intercity train, it was back to boxing the bikes, logistics a bit trickier than when starting from home. Lucky we packed the duct tape! Thanks to the Taree bike shops who provided AND delivered the large awkward boxes to the station.

18.01.2022 The beautiful, but sadly shortened Wairewa Trestle Bridge is the starting pint for Wazza, Renee, Cleo and Jay to have a blast on the East Gippy Rail Trail. Blast they did: "We dont cycle much.." but made it the 30+ km back onto Orbost in about 3 hours. Best way to get ready for a summer swim.

17.01.2022 Reassembling our bikes at Casino railway station a few days and several 100 km ago. Marvellously 20th century modern tho' it is to be able to actually book your bike onto the train with a phone call, for anyone not super comfortable with a spanner this would be a serious turnoff to travelling on a train with your bike. Australia, its just not that hard: people +bikes + trains = regional tourism. #bicycletravel #vline #nswtrainlink

15.01.2022 Just picked the latest addition to the fleet: Trek Powerfly Ebike. All I need now is some customers. With states closing their borders with Victoria, and Melburnians all required to stay home again, I've got another few quiet months ahead.. Plenty of time to prepare for Spring!

14.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS!! The Victorian State Government has today announced $3.5 million for the restoration of the Snowy Rail Bridge. Our community has been campaigning for this 770 sweep of timber to be restored with a cycling and walking deck. Soon you can enjoy the view from the TOP of this iconic sight at the eastern of of the East Gippsland Rail Trail!

06.01.2022 Out to dinner at our local -Orbost Club Hotel. I'm drooling. Chicken Piccata. #orbostclubhotel

04.01.2022 Waiting for the ferry to cross the Hastings River, mid north NSW coast on our mid winter holiday. We spent an unscheduled extra few days at Crescent Head, after one of us developed a runny nose and sore throat: tested in Kempsey, clear result less than 48 hours later. Big shout out to @Crescent Head Resort and Conference Centre who didnt bat an eyelid when we rocked up and said "Hi, we're from Victoria, sick, and waiting for Covid test results." We were made most welcome! #bicycletravel #Crescentheadresort

02.01.2022 A good news story postscript to our NSW cycling holiday (we all need some good news stories): my knitting project went awol in the last few hours of our trip, and thru a pricess of elimination worked I'd left it on the train, or more likely the platform where we reassembled our bikes. (They really work so much better with their wheels on, not hidden inside cardboard.) Shout out to the kind soul who found it and handed it in to lost property rather than binning it, and my brother Chris for schlepping in to the city to pick it up and posting it into the disease ravaged state of Victoria.

02.01.2022 And this path started so well on the other side of the bridge, with a nice access ramp and all. Gladstone, next to the Macleay River near Kempsey, NSW.

01.01.2022 Go Bruthen! The cute little town on the East Gippsland Rail Trail always punches above it's weight. #loveeastgippsland #railtrailsaustralia
