08.01.2022 The recent fires have highlighted just how quickly weather change can occur. It's a timely reminder to ensure your risk management planning is in place for ever...y activity you're planning in the outdoors. Consider the risks, manage the risks by planning appropriately, go out and have a great time. But "Be Prepared" to modify or cancel if conditions are going to add unacceptable risk to your activity. Cancelling or postponing an activity is hard. People have often travelled distances, taken time off work, or were really looking forward to the activity. But I'd ask you to consider setting 'walk away' points prior to an activity to make decisions prior to the date, or even the morning of it. Use your resources, assess the risk along the way, make the right/safe decision, and have a great weekend either way (a backup activity is a great idea!). If you need more information around risk assessment, review your Scout Safe modules in eLearning, or talk to your local Activities Team for advice. Stay safe out there this summer, and have a great time in the outdoors. Wal Waerner DCC Activities, Training & Fellowships
