22.01.2022 Majority of people travel to Opuwo in Northern Namibia to see the amazing Himba people. With their unique look, they are the most widely recognisable, especially with photographers. There whoever are three different tribes living in and around Opuwo, that being Himba, Herero and Zemba (Dhimba). This young girl is from a Zemba tribe, also commonly known as Zimba or Dhimba. There is little information to be found on the Zemba people, however they are closely related to the Herero. It is believed that there are some 30,000 Zemba in the world, with approximately 4.000 residing in Namibia. As you can see with this girl, Zemba have a very unique hair style, and the girls have 4 of their bottom teeth knocked out. They are also known to file their top front teeth.

18.01.2022 Images taken on my jointly led East Africa tour. The tour commenced in the Masai Mara of Kenya, then continued into Tanzania. After a short visit of Lake Victoria, we ventured into the Serengeti and then Ngorongoro Crater. We then took a break from wildlife to meet and photograph Hadzabe Bushmen and a Datoga tribe. Our safari experience concluded with three days in Tarangire National Park before we flew to Zanzibar. Anyone interested in joining a future tour is encouraged to register their interest. I will be releasing dates soon.

15.01.2022 The wildebeest herd had gathered on the hill immediately across the river. Was this to be the morning they braved the crossing of the Mara River? We were watching from a distance, then all of a sudden a small group broke off and darted towards the river. It was all that the remainder of the hert needed, and soon they were all rushing down to the waters edge.

15.01.2022 I was very fortunate to be invited into the hut with the Dhimba women. This was their place of work, and men typically were not allowed. That was their explanation, however, considering it was a place of work, I do wonder whether that rule was made by the women or the men.

14.01.2022 2015 Madagascar Tour Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world, and is often referred to as the "Eight Continent" due to its size and isolation. This mysterious island offers a unique combination of landscape, wildlife and culture, providing many rewarding photographic opportunities. In fact, more than 80 percent of Madagascars fauna and flora exist nowhere else on earth, tr...uly making it a must see destination. The 70 species and subspecies of lemurs will surely entertain you, and the Malagasy people will welcome you with open arms. This tour has been specifically designed to maximise the opportunities for photography, and has been scheduled to coincide with the birth of the Lemurs. 09.01.2022 When I return to Opuwo in Namibia next year, I really need to make an effort to photograph some men and boys. It did not occur to me at the time, but all the photographs I have are of women and girls.

08.01.2022 The young Himba woman closes her eyes and slowly begins to warm up with the rising sun.

06.01.2022 Half of the tour group had gone for a hot balloon flight, so whilst the remainder decided to sleep in, I chose to go out alone with a driver. After watching a beautiful sunrise we came across this pride of lions with a kill. I was fortunate to watch and photograph the scene for 45 minutes before another car arrived. 06.01.2022 Of all the countries I have travelled and led photographic tours, Namibia is well and truly at the top of my favourite destinations. Its no doubt a very popular destination for landscape photographers, but what appeals to me is much broader than just landscapes. Namibia has amazing night shoots, wildlife, architecture and people photography to name a few. The opportunities are endless. When considering a photographic tour, ensure you are getting the most out of Namibia. ... For me personally, the Himba tribes in the north are equally, if not more photogenic than the landscape scenery of the Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, however many tours skip this detail. When putting my tour program together, I specifically aimed to present the very best of Namibia. If anyone is interested in joining me on the 2016 Namibia tour, you can find further details here:- http://spotlightonafrica.com.au/namibia-photographic-tour

03.01.2022 The 2014 Mekong/Cambodia photographic tour will close soon. There are still a few positions available and this will be the last year I run this program. If be...ing away from the tourists in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, and exploring the ruins of Angkor Wat appeals to you, then please dont hesitate to contact me. 02.01.2022 I visited this Dhimba village two years in a row, and each time the children were sickly. Its easy to feel sad and sorry for these children, but the underlying reality is that the chief of the village is very wealthy, even by Western standards. Such a shame that some of the money is not devoted to the health of the village.

02.01.2022 Five people in our group went on the optional hot air balloon flight. Three decided to stay in bed, and I took the opportunity to go out on my own with a driver. This is the sunrise the welcomed the day. The amazing thing was that we were the only safari vehicle to stop and take a photograph.
