24.01.2022 The new NHMRC alcohol guidelines have just been released and there are quite a few big changes. They've dropped the recommended maximum number of standard drinks per week down to 10 from 14 and for the first time they make a very clear statement about young people and advise no alcohol for anyone under the age of 18. https://www.abc.net.au//changes-alcohol-guidelin/12960196

21.01.2022 Hey sobertarians, does anyone feel like sharing their story?

20.01.2022 Did you manage to catch the Global Mindful Drinking Festival at the end of last month? It was a cracker of a sober long weekend! We joined "Breakfast with Proud and Sober" to discuss all things booze (and other drugs) in the LGBTIQ+ community - both here at home and overseas - and why we drink and drug the way we do and how we can avoid the pitfalls as a cohort of communities as well as individually.

20.01.2022 Sex, dating, and intimacy while sober (or newly soberish) can often be a daunting affair for those of us who haven't had practice. But, these are all seriously important aspects of our lives - both physically and for feeling fulfilled in our psyches - and it's natural to feel vulnerable and shy about bringing someone into our personal space for the first, or even the one hundredth, time sober or without our usual crutches. If this sounds a little like you - check out The Sober Sexpert, Tawny Lara, and other delightful humans giving all the tips to quell those sober sexual nerves!

19.01.2022 It's really awesome to see the conversation around alcohol and addiction, and how we view it getting louder in Aussie media. Starts tonight, give it a watch and let us know your thoughts! https://www.sbs.com.au/programs/addicted-australia

18.01.2022 Join the Flux Study now and help our community response to COVID-19 and HIV. We need gay and bisexual men to tell us how COVID-19 has impacted their lives. https://www.flux.org.au/

17.01.2022 Have we got any TOMs in the crowd? Great ad and a great resources from FARE, we're particularly a fan of the 'Measure your pour" calculator!

17.01.2022 Can you help us? We’re conducting in-depth research into why we drink like we do, both as a nation and as our unique cohort of communities. This research will assist us to aid in policy development for LGBTIQ+ health needs, resource development for support services and messaging around alcohol, and how to harness its positive benefits while avoiding its pitfalls.... We would love for you to share your experience with one of the two surveys, there's one for our full time and part time drinkers and one for the sobertarians amongst us who no longer imbibe. If you would like to add your voice to ours please follow the below links. Sobertarians: evaluation.force.com/r/AHMresearchformer Drinkers: evaluation.force.com/r/AHMresearch

16.01.2022 Did you know it takes just 66 days to form a habit? For most Australians, lockdown lasted around 70 days. We’re joining the Alcohol and Drug Foundation to encourage all Australians to reflect on whether their COVID-drinking might have become a little habit. Visit littlehabit.com.au for information on how to recognise problem signs around drinking and find out more about what to do to turn your little habit around. #breakthehabit

09.01.2022 Great little clip from the super humans at Hello Sunday Morning featuring three quick signs that you may want to change up your relationship with drinking.

06.01.2022 We've got to say we've a little bit of a 'sober club' crush on Sober in the Country Ltd's Shanna Whan... she's super candid about her life and struggles and super passionate about changing our relationship with alcohol in rural areas where help is sorely lacking. It's incredible to watch the conversation around how we treat alcohol in Australia get louder and more poignant with her voice added. Have a listen to this amazing podcast recorded recently and remember it's always #OK2SAYNO to a drink.

05.01.2022 Quick tips for staying the path of moderation or alcohol free.

04.01.2022 Recovery, sobriety and moderation are a wide spectrum. There are so many stories and so many different roads that people can go down. Here at Sobar we focus on giving people the option to manage their own path. We believe in harm minimisation and in empowering the individual to find and use what fits for them. For all those people that have reached their own personal state of recovery, we are super proud and happy for you, and you should be too. If you are not where you want ...to be yet, don’t worry because setting goals, being kind to yourself, and utilising support networks can help you get there. Remember we're here to help so if you need just a tweak, a boost to your motivation or a little more of a push to crush your goals, come along and join a SOBAR SMART meeting.
