25.01.2022 Customers are enjoying the home visits and we get to hear most remarkable stories from them. Len has a tree planted in honor of him for being a member of the Park Committee. He was very proud showing the tree to our staff. We also did visits to Tony and Cecil who enjoyed the chats. If you or anyone you know may need home visits please call our friendly staff on 8757 9031.

24.01.2022 The connection our volunteers make with customers and the value they add to each others lives is truly something special! Below is an email we received from one of our long time volunteers Bede, we appreciate you so much! "One of my fortnightly shopping clients is a delightful older gentleman who lives alone, an amputee, a great cook and gardener and fiercely independent. One day last year when I arrived at his home the door was locked and no sign of life. This was unusual a...s he was normally waiting for me. I went to the Centre and Gayali made calls to his number, the local hospitals and I tried from my mobile. We were thinking the worst when my phone rang and it was our friend. He was OK just resting and exhausted. He had fallen over in the backyard the previous day while pruning vines on his side fence and couldn't get up. He was there for some time before the ambulance rescued him. I told him since he had my number, if he ever had another similar situation to call me. He told me that he would only bother me as a last resort. Very independent man. So I was surprised a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday evening when he rang me. I immediately thought the worst but we got to talking about the lock down and social distancing and shopping and it soon became apparent that he was fine. He explained that he had spoken with Anna and had organised his shopping with neighbours so he could get all his special ingredients for his cooking from various stores. He said he would contact Anna if he needed any shopping help. The purpose of his call was to see if I was alright. Said he missed seeing me every couple of weeks and going shopping and just wanted to make sure that I was OK in these crazy times. And when the world returns to normal I have an invite to enjoy some of his amazing cooking. People never cease to surprise me."

11.01.2022 Staff and customers of the Social Inclusion Team were very happy to be back from yesterday, finally able to catch up with old friends! Some modified services have been reinstated in an effort to get our communities isolated seniors back together again. There are 2 wellness programs running on a Monday & Tuesday, 1 on a Friday and a lunch club program every Thursday with transport available. The programs are limited to 10 customers in each and we have very strict protocols in place to protect both our customers and staff. 08.01.2022 Tara Anglican School for Girls had a the junior school girls work on writing note of gratitude for people who are working and taking care of the vulnerable people during the COVID 19 pandemic. Many of the girls decided to write to the Prime minster, NSW Premier, Health care workers and charitable organisations like Anglicare and Parramatta mission. One staff members daughter, Jhanvi, has been observing her mum work and listening to all the calls she makes asking how Seniors... in the community are going and if they are keeping active, have enough food and medication. She also watched how her grandparents were helped with their shopping and medication. (she would come home from school and check if her mum had done any wellness calls each day!) She learned how important the role of caring for the elderly was and that they need to be looked after. She also learned if the elderly didn’t have food and can’t cook for themselves they can get meals on wheels through Nutrition services. So she decided to write her thank you card to the Council’s Social Inclusion Team.
