19.01.2022 Times are SO tough for businesses right now, and also individuals, so here are ’ ! Like a business’s post on Facebook and/or Instagram and leave a comment. It seems small, but it can actually help their post and business get in front of MORE people and potentially grow their business, as it will help their ranking within the social media algorithm. This is super important right now! Best part, i...t’ll only take you 30 seconds! If you’re posting a photo on Facebook or Instagram of a delicious takeaway burger you’re about to tuck into, lunch and cocktails at a restaurant or a photo of your new buys after shopping up a storm at a retail store, anything, tag the business in your post and check-in. This increases exposure for the business! Leave a kind Facebook review for a business you have been to and enjoyed the experience. If you see a post from a local business that your friends may be interested in or could benefit from seeing, share it. : . As things begin to reopen to the public, remember: local businesses are owned and operated by your neighbours. They are the backbone of our community, giving us our own unique flair and adding to the reasons why visitors flock to enjoy it. Without these businesses, our streets would be less vibrant, and our town would have less personality. As businesses adapt and begin to reopen, be patient and compassionate. Orders may take longer and lines may form as businesses have a whole heap of new requirements in place. Not to mention they’re scared. Scared if they will even make it through this season. 16.01.2022 I had an EIY ’ ’ ! Okay, at first that might sound a little crazy , but it’s true! Think about it for a sec.... Sometimes you don’t know there are things that you can learn to help you do something better, because you don’t know what they are! There is such a huge world of social media out there with so many do’s and don’t’s, algorithmic rules, things that can penalise your reach, hinder your engagement. But if you don’t know, how would you know? I just spent three 2hr coaching sessions with 2 people from a business over a few weeks and they were MIND BLOWN! (Their words.) They had no idea that there was so much to social media. They had no idea there was so much that they didn’t know! But NOW they feel equipped and confident in growing their social media to catapult their business. It was them saying this and the way they said it that it hit me Business owners don’t even know what they’re missing out on with social media. They are oblivious to some of these rules and algorithm factors. It's not necessarily that they don't have the time to learn (I mean that too), but they don't even know that they are there and there are solutions! They think "social media doesn’t work, or I don’t get it, so i’m stupid or I just have to keep on sucking and hope for the best, one day something will work. NO! (and you're NEVER stupid for doing your best!) There ARE proven strategies and best practices that can be learnt, algorithm rules that can be understood, heck there are even things that are banned but you could be doing them innocently and this is why few people are seeing your posts! For me, I need one FULL day off of my computer (and devices - work-wise) a week, and I generally choose Sunday, otherwise by Monday I'm feeling a bit crazy! I also look at this as saying; if I spend Sunday well (relaxed and off my computer) and say, in enjoying the outdoors, or having lunch and cocktails with friends, it will also bring me content! With so many new faces hitting the follow button, I figured I should share a bit about me, so you know who it is sitting on the other side of this screen dishing out your tips! I dropped out of Journalism (& Photography ) at Uni after 2 years. Buh bye Journalism / Photo-Journalism career.... Growing up I always wanted to be a Journalist or writer of some kind so it was weird to find myself suddenly lost. Until I stumbled into sales & marketing - which did run in the family. When social social media hit the world, I was instantly hooked. Like, shamefully addicted! Then it crept into my sales & marketing roles at work. #winning My amazing bosses left, new ones came in and I ended up working for douche-bags. Seriously, 2 in a row, what are the chances! I was constantly being told you should start your own social media business, you’re so good at it. I thought, HA, yeah right, what do I know about running a business?! Aforementioned bosses were a good motivator though. So I dived. 9 years later, it’s still the best move I EVER made! 07.01.2022 Are you perfect? I'm not. This is definitely one of the BIGGEST issues I face in my business, especially when it comes to working ON my business... always striving so hard for perfection. ... Which in reality is a mirage. And by chasing something that really isn't tangible and is always shifting stops you from getting. shit. done! Everything just takes so much longer! I used to hate the saying, "Done is better than perfect", I used to think... "Ahhh no, it's not!" But it so is! For instance I'm am trying so hard for something in my business right now to be "perfect" that I'm spending WAY to much time on it, like double the time it should take (ahem - at least triple actually! )... and due to that it's still not done and it's driving me insane! 06.01.2022 ! # HUGE news announced for Facebook and hashtags! Even though Facebook first launched hashtags back in 2013, they really never took off and never made much of a difference. ... There have been all kinds of debates over the years on whether to use hashtags on Facebook or not. But they didn't look right on Facebook , it made it look like you didn't know what you were doing, or you were just being lazy and auto-publishing from Instagram, and most importantly it offered NO BENEFIT to a Facebook Business Page to use them. The bottom line, it was a waste of time and they even turned some people off. Guess what? 7 years later, Facebook just announced that it is FINALLY making hashtags useful! And not only useful, they are starting to push the use of hashtags to increase your ORGANIC REACH! YAASSSSSS! Now, ANY increase in organic reach deserves a closer look and some testing! A few things to note: Find hashtags by typing in the search bar, just like on Instagram. Unlike on Instagram, Facebook hashtag feeds do not show the number of hashtags, or related hashtags. Nor can you follow a hashtag... yet! The posts you see in Facebook hashtag feed pages are only publicly visible posts from profiles and pages, and from friends if shared to friends only. (In other words, you won't see every single post on FB using that tag due to privacy settings of the content owner, like you do on Instagram). Definitely start including hashtags in your Facebook posts now! Start testing! So the question I know you’re asking ? Unlike Instagram, you can use as many as you want! (The character limit for Facebook posts is a whopping 63,206!) BUT, generally I would suggest using 2-5 key hashtags if you are also tagging businesses and maybe up to 10 if you're not. At the beginning it will all be about testing, which is what i've started doing, so you should too! I would recommend not overloading your post and making it an eyesore with 30+ hashtags, especially in these early stages while people get used to seeing hashtags on Facebook, for real. 03.01.2022 I hope you’re not too attached to the way your Facebook Page looks and functions Yep, it’s all about to change. Again. See images below to see what's changing!... This New Pages Experience is rolling out over the next couple of months. Apparently when it is available to you, it will be made known and you will see the option to switch over, and even switch back. I daresay they will do it like they did FB5 (the last big change) They will do a soft-launch where it is optional for a while, before they force us over to it. Just to help soften the blow and make us feel like we have a choice! What are your thoughts? Any questions?
