24.01.2022 MUST READ Filter Zine spoke with Krishtie Mofazzal + some of the incredible artists playing on the Georges River stage this Saturday! "I feel like lots of the music and arts coming out of Western Sydney has a really strong voice, and is often guided or heavily influenced by the creators own intimately personal experiences (like family history, trauma, growing up in Western Sydney, class experiences etc.). Even though music and art made across Sydney and beyond can be pe...rsonal and explorative, I feel like when it especially comes from artists in the Greater Western Sydney area, there is that streak of something inventive and special." - Krishtie Mofazzal [Georges River stage curator] GR stage SET TIMES : 2.30 - 3.30 : Giulia 3.45 - 4.15 : Aishani [live] 4.30 - 5.15 : MLDVR [live] 5.30 - 6.15 : Wytchings [live] 6.25 - 7.10 : Atro [live] 7.10 - 8.10 : Monako 8.15 - 9.15 : Kilimi

14.01.2022 Its unbelievable to witness how much SOFT CENTRE has grown in just three years. Our third edition was the most ambitious, challenging and expansive program to date, featuring over 60 artists from both local and international communities. SOFT CENTRE is a project of love and immense hard work from a team of generous, committed people. We would like to extend our deepest thanks to all the artists, crew, volunteers, technicians and partners who make this day possible. In particular the team at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and Liverpool City Council for their ongoing support. Most of all, we want to give the biggest thanks to the incredible crowd, who were so respectful, encouraging and energetic. Thank you, thank you, thank you. More soon.

13.01.2022 "Soft Centre is a grand festival, and stands on its own among Sydneys party landscape. The Casula Powerhouse feels like the only place such a festival could fit, with stages, artworks and acts that filled the spaces all the way to their high ceilings. For a one day festival its almost overwhelming in its scale and effect, with its highly sensory art works, immersive performances from DJs...and avant guard, grandiose stage design making." Thanks for the love Purple Sneakers !

13.01.2022 The first of many SC19 recordings to come is live on the cloud. 33EMYBW playing a kinetic mix of footwork, deco-club and sino-futurist steppers in the Turbine Hall.

06.01.2022 The SOFT CENTRE team stands in full solidarity with protesters demanding justice for Black Lives at home and abroad. We are taking time to reflect, listen and better educate ourselves about anti-Blackness, systemic oppression, the role our privilege and positions play in upholding systems of white supremacy. We recognise that our work takes place on unceded Aboriginal land. We acknowledge that we actively benefit from and enjoy the work of Black musicians and artists, who cre...ated, pioneered and championed many genres that we celebrate at SOFT CENTRE. Becoming a better ally requires proactive thinking and action in our professional and private lives. There are many resources available to help us better understand and address our own part in structural racism and to contribute towards dismantling it. 03.01.2022 SOFT CENTRE stands in solidarity with Liquid Architecture and all our peers in the arts, film, music, TV and events/entertainment sectors during these incredibly difficult times. Last week LA lost their annual operational funding from the Australia Council for the Arts, along with 48 other arts organisations. It can't be understated how much this organisation has contributed to Australia's experimental arts and music communities in its 20 years of operation, providing space, ...financial support and cutting-edge programming for 600+ artists. AUSCO funding has declined by nearly 20% since Labor left office in 2013. Major Performing Arts organisations [Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet, state orchestras and theatre companies] soak up three-fifths of that total budget. Under these new austerity measures, 'small-to-medium' organisations are at risk of total extinction. In a recent article for The Guardian, Ben Eltham wrote that 'we are witnessing a cultural bloodbath in Australia'.... "Covid-19 is an opportunity to ask ourselves as a nation why we take our artists and cultural organisations for granted. Why, even in an emergency, cant we find the money to fund a couple of hundred of the most important arts organisations in the country properly? The answers are both complex, and simple. Historical precedent, conservative antipathy to arts funding, and enduring beliefs that artists are not really deserving and that culture is not a real industry all play a part. But the simpler explanation is a failure of imagination." https://www.theguardian.com//we-are-witnessing-a-cultural-
